dc.description.abstract This research is concerned with the analysis of struggle for getting an obsession of the major character based on the Individual Psychology Approach and the motivation that the researcher gets from the novel in order to motivate the senior high school student in getting their ideal life. The research is focused on the major character, namely Lara Cameron. The object of this thesis is the novel entitled The Stars Shine Down written by Sidney Sheldon. Sidney Sheldon is an American writer, playwright a novelist was born in Chicago on February 11, 1917. He is one of bestselling novelists of all time. He passed away on January 30, 2007. This study is a descriptive research because it is aimed at analyzing the struggle of Lara Cameron for getting an obsession in The Stars Shine Down novel based individual psychological approach. The researcher does not use any statistical procedure or calculation. The subject of this thesis is the major character of the novel. The data collecting technique of this thesis is noting technique. The researcher reads the novel, makes a study about the theory of individual psychology; especially based on Alfred Adler’s theory, makes the relationship between the individual psychology theory and the study inside the novel, then takes a note and identified the major character’s struggle for getting an obsession found in the novel. In analyzing the data the researcher finds the idea in the novel that can be used for motivating the students for getting their ideal life. Based on the analysis, the outcome of this study shows that the major character’s obsession leads her to become a successful woman in real estate business. To be a successful woman in real estate business, she has to do many ways. Her character is in accordance with the principles of individual psychological approach. Besides, the experiences of the major character can motivate the students in getting their ideal life. The examples of Lara Cameron’s experiences are she never gives up when she finds the problems and solves them, she makes a good relationship with the others, she borrows some money to begin her business, and she does not forget to help the others en_US
