Abstract:
English as a tool of communication has been playing an important part in
acquiring cultural, scientific and technical knowledge, for collecting worldwide
information and carrying out international exchange and cooperation. Improving
of students’ oral English level has become more and more important. The
objective of this research is to arouse the students’ motivation in speaking
English. To get success in teaching learning process the students need motivation
because motivation plays an important role in the learning English process. The
student’s motivation has a great influence in learning English process because it
has a great influence to the attitude in English lesson. In other word, the student’s
success or failure in learning subject (English) can be identified through the
student’s motivation in learning subject.
Conducting this research, this is to know the student’s motivation, to
know the students’s speaking ability, and the last to know whether or not there is
any positive and significant correlation between the student’s motivation in
speaking English and its effect on their Speaking Ability of Second Grade of
Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Padureso in academic year 2012/2013. The research
population in this research is the Second Grade of MA Padureso. The researcher
uses descriptive quantitative and correlation analysis. There were 31 samples. In
collecting the data, the researcher uses two kinds of technique are applied. To get
the data on the student’s motivation, the writer will use Questionnaire.
Meanwhile, in order to get the data on the student achievement, the researcher
used a documentation technique which was taken from the school report card in
the second semester.
The level of the students’ motivation in speaking English of second grade
of Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Padureso in academic year 2012/2013 is in high
category. As mean score is 73.67. While the level of the student’s speaking ability
is in very high category. As mean score is 81.45, and the correlation result is in
high category, there is 0.799. It means that there is correlation between the
student’s motivation in speaking English and the student’s speaking ability. To
know whether there is an effect between two variables the researcher finds the
regression linier that is 0.638 (63.8%), it means that the student’s motivation can
affect on their speaking ability. The result of this study shows that there is positive
and significant correlation between the student’s motivation and the student
speaking ability.
