A CORRELATION STUDY BETWEEN STUDENT’S READING ABILITY AND THEIR TRANSLATION ABILITY OF THE FOURTH SEMESTER STUDENTS OF ENGLISH DEPARTMENT AT MUHAMMADIYAH UNIVERSITY OF PURWOREJO IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2012/2013

Abstract

Language plays important role in our life. By mastering an International language, that is English, the writer may take a lot of benefit of them is we can read and translate English text. For that reason, the writer must master at least Reading and translate English text correctly. In This Research, the research would like to know whether there is correlation between students English Reading ability and students English Translation ability at the Fourth Semester of English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo or not. The Researcher design of this study is using quantitative approach which the design of this research is correlation descriptive design. The population of this research is the students of the Fourth semester of English Department of University Muhammadiyah of Purworejo. The Total Numbers is 251 students. The sample that is taken are class A and B with 61 students. The result of this research shows that the correlation between the students Reading ability and students EnglishTranslation ability at the Fourth semester of English Department of University Muhammadiyah of Purworejo is high. It is proven from the result of correlation coefficient product moment. shows that observed r (0. 623 ) it is includes to the table interpretation between 0.600 till with 0.800 in the level of high interpretation. Then, the hypothesis which states there is significant correlation between student English Reading ability and students English Translation ability in the Fourth Semester of English Department of University Muhammadiyah of Purworejo is accepted in the level of high inpretation.
