Abstract:
English as an international language is used for communication in most
activities and even in the world. In Indonesia, English is taught to the students of
elementary, junior, senior, and even to university students as one of their subject.
The research is conducted to find how effective of teaching preposition by using
illustration pictures as the media for the first year students of Madrasah
Tsanawiyah.
This research was carried out at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Hidayatussibyan
wadaslintang in three days on May 2013. The population of the study is seventh
grade or the first year students. As the sample, the researcher used 35 students of
population. The researcher used the satur ake sample.
To collect the data, the researcher used t t as the instrument. There were pre-test
and post-test. Pre-test was conducted before the researcher gave the treatment to
the students. The type of test was easier t. Moreover, to analysis the data, the
researcher used t-test formula.
The objectives of this thesis are to find out whether there is any
effectiveness or not teaching preposition by using illustration pictures as the
media for the first year students of Mad ah Tsanawiyah Hidayatussibyan. The
use of illustration pictures as media for aching preposition is a good way to be
applied to improve the students’ preposition mastery. In applying illustration
pictures, the teacher should prepare and
illustration pictures, there are some kinds f prepositions that can be taught in the
first year of Madrasah Tsanawiyah students such as the preposition in, on, and
at, etc. In this thesis, the researcher only discusses the prepositions which
indicate location, time, and position
The result of data computation indicates that t-test is 11.008. It means that tscore
of this study is higher than the t-va e on the t-table. The t-value on the table
is 1.691. It means that the hypothesis is accepted. Using illustration pictures is
effective in teaching English preposition to the first year students of Madrasah
Tsanawiyah. The researcher hopes that result can be involved in education field.
English teacher should pay-attention to the media and improve the media to
stimulate the students in the reaching-learning process.
