our school and pass exams or test for students who have a weak reader.The
objectives of this study is to find out whether there is any significant difference of
the students taught by magic disc and without magic disc in reading descriptive
text at the seventh grade students’ of SMP Negeri 15 Purworejo in the academic
year 2013/2014.
The researcher applied quantitative with a comparative method. The
population of the research is the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 15
Purworejo in the academic year 2013/2014. The researcher takes 64 students;
class VII D and E. The researcher uses a purposive sampling technique because of
the limited time. The researcher used pre-test and post-test in this research as a
research instrument. In technique of analyzing data, mean and standard deviation
are used in the descriptive analysis, while test of normality, homogeneity and t'
test is used in the inferential analysis. To see whether the hypothesis is accepted or
rejected, the t-test is consulted to the t-table at the 0.05 significance level.
The main results of this research are (1) taught by magic disc score can be
categorized as excellent level with M=88.13 and SD=7.147; (2) taught without
magic disc score can be categorized as excellent level with M=87.13 and SD=9.3;
(3) the obtained t-value was 6.57, and t-table was 2.000. It means that t-value was
higher that t-table. Thus, the hypothesis showed that there is no significant
difference taught bymagic disc and without magic disc in reading descriptive
textat seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 15 Purworejo. Based on the result, it
means that the hypothesis is rejected
