Abstract:
English teacher plays an important role in improving students’
vocabulary mastery. They should use an appropriate method which can
facilitate the students to understand and get easier way mastering English
vocabulary. They should use method and teaching media that appropriate and
fun to learner on teaching learning process. One of method that use in this
research is using link system memory to improve vocabulary mastery at the
fourth grade students of SD Negeri Mangli Kebumen. Based on the statement
above, the purpose of this study is to find out whether using link system
memory effective or not to improve Vocabulary mastery at the fourth grade
students at SD Negeri Mangli Kebumen in the academic year 2012/2013.
This study belongs to pre- experimental research. The independent
variable of this research is teaching vocabulary item using link system
memory, which is symbolized by ‘’X’’. The dependent variable of this
research is the students’ vocabulary mastery, which is symbolized by ‘’Y’’.
The population of this research is fourth-grade students of SD Negeri Mangli
Kebumen is 32 students. The researcher uses saturated sampling on taking
sample. To collect the data the researcher used tests as the instrument, they
are pre- test and post- test. The type of the test is multiple choice tests which
consist of 25 questions in each test. To analyze the test the researcher uses
descriptive analysis consist of the mean, mode, median, standard deviation,
the lowest score, and the highest score ,and inferential analysis, this analysis
is used to conclude the hypothesis, the researcher applies t-test before applies
t- test the researcher applies test of normality and homogeneity.
After analyzing the data, the researcher concludes that the result of tvalue
is 10.216. Based on the 0.05 significant levels, the value table is 2.000.
The result of computation shows that t- value is higher than t- table. That is
10.216> 2.000. Another fact shows that the method used is effective. It is
shown by the mean of post- test is higher than pre- test, mean post test is
87.25 and mean pre- test is 56.12. Based on the result finding, it can be
concluded that the using of link system memory is effective to improve
students’ vocabulary.
