Abstract:
The objective of this research is to find whether the use of guessing
picture is effective or not to improve the seventh grade students’ vocabulary
mastery of State Junior High School 6 Wadaslintang in the academic year
2013/2014.
In order to support the basic language of English, students should
acquire an adequate number of words and should know how to use them
accurately. Guessing pictures make people grasp the idea or information clearly
even clearer than words, which are expressed spoken or written.
This research is quantitative research which is designed as Preexperimental
research with paradigm One-Group Pre-test—Post-test. The
research was conducted in State Junior High School 6 Wadaslintang. This
research is carried out on 24th, 26th, 28th May 2014. The researcher took the
seventh grade students of State Junior High School 6 Wadaslintang in the
academic year 2013/2014 as her population the sample of this research is class
seventh B of State Junior High School 6 Wadaslintang in the academic year
2013/2014. The sampling technique used Purposive Sampling; then, for the
instrument of this research is ‘test’ consists of 30 items and it has validity and
reliability.
The result of descriptive analysis shows that mean score of posttest
is higher than pre-test (78,99>65,51) then the inferential analysis shows that tvalue
is higher than t-table (3, 49 > 2, 07). Thus, it can be concluded that the
hypothesis was accepted. It means that “the use of guessing picture to improve
students’ vocabulary mastery of the seventh grade Junior High School students of
State Junior High School 6 Wadaslintang in the academic year 2013/2014 is
effective”.
