dc.description.abstract English is an International language to be learned. It is used to communicate among countries in the world. English is introduced to the students in Indonesia from Elementary School to the college students. The students, especially students in senior high school level must deal with many kinds of text. One kind of text that must be learned by the students is descriptive text. Meanwhile, the text should be learned through the interesting media. One kind of the effective media is by using tourism video. This research is pre-experimental research. The purpose of this study is to know whether using tourism video is effective or not to improve students writing skill of descriptive text at the tenth grade students of MAN Purworejo in the academic year of 2013/2014. The researcher took 31 students of X-2 as the sample. The researcher uses purposive sampling technique. The researcher gave pre-test and post test to get the data. The mean score of post test is higher than the mean score of pre-test (70.8 > 57.55). In addition, the result of t-value is 6.93. Then, the researcher consulted the critical value on the t-table using 5% (0.05) significant level. The value of ttable is 2.042. It means that t-value is higher than t-table (6.93 > 2.042). Based on the result findings, the researcher concluded that the use of tourism video is effective to improve students writing skill of descriptive text at the tenth grade students of MAN Purworejo in the academic year of 2013/2014. en_US
