Abstract:
English is international language, so teaching english is important
neverthless the students still found difficulties in learning English. The growth of
media information technology era gives teacher to have opportunity to choose the
technique of teaching. It is possible that game will become an alternative
technique to teaching learning process. Climbing grammar mountain game is one
of games that could be used in teaching simple present tense.
This research aims to find the effectiveness of climbing grammar
mountain game in teaching simple present tense. In order to know the
effectiveness, the researcher compares the result of teaching by using common
method to the result of teaching using climbing grammar mountain game.
This research is called experimental research. The population of this research
is the seventh grade students of Islamic Junior High school Ma’arif NU Pituruh in
the academic year 2013/2014. The researcher took two classes, VII A consist of
30 students as the control group and VII B consist of 30 students as the
experimental group. The sampling technique which is used is purposive sampling.
The instrument that used to collect the data is a test. The form of the test is
divided into two parts. Those are pre-test and post-test, and to analyze the data,
the researcher used t-test formula.
The result of this research found that the climbing grammar mountain
game is effective to improve students’ ability to use of simple present tense. The
result compared to the value of t-table 6.775>2.0017. Then, the computation of ttest
shows that the Ha is accepted. The highest score was gotten by the student in
experimental group after treatment is 93.33. The lowest score was gotten by the
student in control group is 50.00. After the test, the scores were found that the pretest
mean of the experimental group was 69.33, and the experimental has mean
score78.67 in post test. Moreover, the mean pre-test of the control group was
64.56, while the post test of control group has mean score 65.22.
Based on the result of the research finding, the researcher concludes that the
climbing grammar mountain game is effective in teaching simple present tense.
