who want to learn a foreign language they sometimes will meet all kind of
learning problems. As a matter of fact, many students of junior high school
consider that English is a very difficult subject to learn. One of the difficult
part to learn is grammar, especially in using auxiliary verbs ‘do’ and ‘does’.
The aims of this research is to find out the students’ problem of using
auxiliary verbs ‘do’ and ‘does’ by the first grade students of SMP N 2 Ayah.
The researcher uses descriptive analysis of his research. In this research, the
researcher took three classes as the sample; there are class VII A consists of
31 students, class VII B consists of 32 students, and class VII E consist of 29
students. While, the instrument used in this thesis, was writing test. In
collecting the data, the researcher uses completion test in term of using
auxiliary verbs ‘do’ and ‘does’. After getting enough data, the researcher
analyzes the students’ error in using auxiliary verbs ‘do’ and ‘does’ to know
the students’ problem.
Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the average of
error occured do is 12% and does is 12% (table 1) , the average of error
occured do is 11% and does is 11% (table 2), and the average of error occured
do is 20% and does is 17% (table 3). All of the average of percentage of
errors reflects their problem in using auxiliary verbs ‘do’ and ‘does’. The
researcher concludes that the students face problems in using auxiliary verbs
‘do’ and ‘does’, because the student cannot recognize appropriate auxiliary
verb for personal pronoun. They should be able to use auxiliary verbs ‘do’
and ‘does’. Later, they can learn from their own error and do better.
