dc.description.abstract English is not an easy thing to be studied by the students. The students who want to learn a foreign language they sometimes will meet all kind of learning problems. As a matter of fact, many students of junior high school consider that English is a very difficult subject to learn. One of the difficult part to learn is grammar, especially in using auxiliary verbs ‘do’ and ‘does’. The aims of this research is to find out the students’ problem of using auxiliary verbs ‘do’ and ‘does’ by the first grade students of SMP N 2 Ayah. The researcher uses descriptive analysis of his research. In this research, the researcher took three classes as the sample; there are class VII A consists of 31 students, class VII B consists of 32 students, and class VII E consist of 29 students. While, the instrument used in this thesis, was writing test. In collecting the data, the researcher uses completion test in term of using auxiliary verbs ‘do’ and ‘does’. After getting enough data, the researcher analyzes the students’ error in using auxiliary verbs ‘do’ and ‘does’ to know the students’ problem. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the average of error occured do is 12% and does is 12% (table 1) , the average of error occured do is 11% and does is 11% (table 2), and the average of error occured do is 20% and does is 17% (table 3). All of the average of percentage of errors reflects their problem in using auxiliary verbs ‘do’ and ‘does’. The researcher concludes that the students face problems in using auxiliary verbs ‘do’ and ‘does’, because the student cannot recognize appropriate auxiliary verb for personal pronoun. They should be able to use auxiliary verbs ‘do’ and ‘does’. Later, they can learn from their own error and do better. en_US
