Abstract:
English is an international language that makes it possible to everyone to
communicate with other people around the world if someone has an ability to use
English. The ability in using English is very important to everyone. Therefore,
English becomes compulsory subject for elementary school students. The method
used by the teacher must be appropriate for them. By using Realia as Media, the
students can have high motivation to learn English. As the result, they can learn
vocabulary easily and interestingly.
This thesis is entitled “The Effectiveness Of Realia Of Outdoor Objects To
Improve Students’ Vocabulary Mastery of The Fifth-Grade Students At SD
Negeri Kroyo Kulon In The Academic Year 2013/ 2014”. This research is a
experimental research because it is aimed to find out how effective Realia as
Media to improve vocabulary mastery for the fifth-grade students. The population
of this research is the fifth-grade students of SD Negeri Kroyo Kulon in the
academic year 2013/2014. The researcher took 25 students as the sample. In
addition, the researcher collected the data by giving test and treatment, and also
by the questionnaire. The researcher then analyzed the data statically by using ttest.
The finding shows that the mean of pre-test was 70.08 and the mean of
post-test was 88.64. The total score in pre-test was 1752 and the total score posttest
was 2216. The result of analysis indicated that in teaching vocabulary by
using Realia as Media is effective to make students increase their vocabulary
mastery. It was proved by the computation that value of t-test is 10.55, this value
showed that there was significant difference because the t-value was higher than
the t-table (10.55>1.708). It means that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted.
