Abstract:
English as the most important language has become the communicative
language and almost in all parts of the world. To make teaching learning process
more effective, teacher need to find appropriate method to deliver the material. One
of the method is CIRC method which is appropriate in teaching reading. The
purpose of this research is to find out whether the use of Cooperative Integrated
Reading and Composition (CIRC) Method was effective in teaching reading
narrative text at tenth grade students of Senior High School 6 Purworejo in the
Academic Year 2013/2014.
This research was quantitative experimental research. The population in this
research was all the tenth grade students of Senior High School 6 Purworejo in the
academic year 2013/2014. The number of population was 192 students, and the
researcher choosed 64 students as the sample by using purposive sampling. The
sample consisted of two classes, which is X-3 as control Group and X-2 as
experimental group. The researcher used pre-test and post-test to collect the data
and then calculating both of test manually, and the researcher used t-test to analyze
the data.
From the result of normality and homogenity test, it could be concluded that
the distribution both classes were normal and homogenious. For hypothesis testing,
the researcher used t-test. From the result, the t-value was 6.676 and the t-table was
1.676. it could be said that 6.676>1.676, so the null hypothesis was rejected and the
research hypothesis was accepted. Based o the explanation above, the researcher
concluded that the used of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition in
Teaching Reading Narrative Text at Tenth Grade Students of Senior High School 6
Purworejo in the Academic Year 2013/2014 was effective.
