dc.description.abstract The objective of the study is to find out the effectiveness of cooperative learning: jigsaw method to improve speaking skill to the second grade students of SMA N 5 Purworejo in the academic year of 2013/2014. This research is a pre-experimental research. The population of this research was the second grade students of SMA N 5 Purworejo. The researcher took XI-IPA 2 as the sample. The researcher compared the result of pre-test which was hold before giving treatment and the result of post-test which was hold after giving treatment. The data in this research was calculated manually and by using SPSS statistic 18. The result of the study shows that jigsaw method is effective to improve students’ speaking skill on the second grade students at SMA N 5 Purworejo in the academic year of 2013/2014. It is proved by the mean of the post-test result was higher than the pre-test result (77.34>65.16). The t-test was 7.081. It was higher than the t-table (7.081>2.000). en_US
