dc.description.abstract The objective of the study is to know whether colourful word cards is effective or not in teaching w-h question to ninth grade Students Of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Tarbiyatul ‘Ulum Kebumen in The Academic Year 2014. This study is experimental research and the population of this study is the Ninth Grade Students Of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Tarbiyatul ‘Ulum Kebumen in The Academic Year 2013/2014. There are two classes consisting of 68 students of the ninth grade. The researcher took all classes, each class contains 34 students, all of them are sample. The researcher administered objective test. To get the data, the researcher held pre -test and post- test to both of class. Both of the test were in multiple choice form and each test contains 30 numbers. The instrument used for measuring the improving students’ understanding in w-h question. The researcher taught w-h question using colourful word cards to the experimental group and taught w-h question without colourful word cards to the control group. The result of this research showed that colourful word card is effective in teaching w-h question. The researcher used t-test to compute the data. The result of the computation of the t-value was 5.6. The obtained t-table at 0.05 significance levels was 1.962. It means that the result of the research obtained from the computation was greater than its critical value. Therefore, the researcher concluded that colourful words card was effective to teach w-h question. In line with the result of the result, the researcher suggests that to improve the students’ understanding in w-h question, students can use colourful word cards in learning process. It is essential to the teacher to know that using media in teaching learning process helps the students to understand the material. en_US
