Abstract:
expressions, and feelings which is used for communicating to the readers in the
form of written words. Writing among students takes less attention in the process
of its activities. They were difficult to explore ideas, taking a long process and
unorganized result. This research, entitled “The implementation of using team game
tournament in improving writing ability of hortatory exposition text at eleventh
students of SMA N 9 Purworejo in the academic year of 2013/2014” aims to find
how is the implementation of team game tournament in improving the students’
writing ability for the eleventh grade students at SMA N 9 Purworejo.
The subject of this research is 22 students of the eleventh grade of science
of SMA N 9 Purworejo. The object of the research is the method that is used by
teacher in teaching writing hortatory exposition text; that is using team game
tournament. The researcher collected the data by using an achievement test,
observation, and field notes.
The results of the observations show that TGT is implemented to improve
the students’ writing of hortatory exposition text. The implementation of TGT
method can stimulate the student’s idea. It also makes them more active in the class
and more competence in writing hortatory exposition text. The result of students
tasks show that TGT method can help students to improve their writing ability gets
better after the implementation of TGT. It can be seen from their writing
achievement at pre-test and post-test. The average at the pre-test is 4.13, and 7.27
at the post-test.
