Abstract:
This study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of reproduction
technique to improving writing skill at the second grade of SMP N 22 Purworejo,
and to investigate how is the students’ skill of writing descriptive text of second
grade of SMP N 22 Purworejo.
This research was carried out at SMP N 22 Purworejo on November 2013.
It is experimental research. Here, the researcher takes the data from second grade
of VIII B and VIII C as the sample of the research. The VIII B as experimental
group and VIII C as control group. Dealing with the research instrument of
collecting the data, the researcher makes some steps: (1) giving pretest to both
experimental and control class; (2) applying the treatment to the experimental
class and giving material to the control class by using regular teaching; (3) giving
post-test to both experimental and control class. To analyze the data, the
researcher applies descriptive and inferential analyze using t-test.
The result of the research leads to the conclusion that the average score of
the students who are taught writing of descriptive text by using reproduction
technique is 82.78 that is categorized as excellent while the average score of the
students who are taught writing of descriptive text without reproduction technique
is 71.13. in other word, the use of reproduction technique is effective in improving
students’ writing skill of descriptive text. The t-test of level significant 0.05 shows
t-obtained value is 6.69 and t-table value is 2.00, it means that t-value is higher
than t-table. It can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the
students’ achievement between the class taught by Reproduction technique and
without it.
Finally, the research findings imply that the use of reproduction technique
can affect the students’ writing skil of descriptive text optimally. Therefore, it is
recommended that English teachers apply reproduction technique in teaching
writing descriptive text, to be more creative and innovative in using various kinds
of interesting teaching technique in delivering the materials. The students are
expected to be more active during the teaching learning process, so it can make
the students interested and motivated in learning English. Moreover, they will get
a better result. For the researcher herself it will be her experiences, she hopes that
the thesis will be useful and will contribute some valuable thing to the writer
herself and all readers in general.
