Abstract:
Speaking is one of the four language skill that has a very important role in
the language teaching and learning. speaking is a products skill that can be
directly and empirically observed, those observations are invariably colored by the
accuracy and effectivenesss of a test-taker’s listening skill.
In speaking we can measure the student’s English ability. It is also used as
a mean of communication. communication practice is also a kind a metadiscursive
practice, a set of expertly designed ways of talking about communication that are
available to be used in everyday discourse. In fact, the researcher found that the
English speaking skill of the second years students of SMP Muhammadiyah
Salaman is not satisfactory yet. The techniques that are used by the teachers still
make the students unable to communicate with others. To solve the problems, the
researcher tries to apply the communication practice technique in teaching
speaking.
The researcher applied quantitative with an experimental method. The
population of the research is the second grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah
Salaman in the school year 2013/2014. The researcher takes 37 students as the
participant of the study by applying purposive sampling technique. The researcher
used pre-test and post-test in this research as a research instrument. In technique
of analyzing data, mean and standard deviation are used in the descriptive
analysis, while test of normality, homogeneity and t' test is used in the inferential
analysis. To see whether the hypothesis is accepted or rejected, the t-test is
consulted to the t-table at the 0.05 significance level.
The research found that the t-test result is 10.312, while t-table with the degree of
freedom of N -1 on 37-1=36 is 1.688. it means that the result of t-test is higher
than the one on the figure of t-table. Thus the researcher hypotheses proved true
and can be accepted. The research suggests English teachers to use
communication practice technique as one the technique in teaching speaking.
