dc.description.abstract in descriptive text, and (2) to find out the effectiveness of using environmental media in improving students’ writing skill on descriptive text at the seventh grade students of SMP MuhammadiyahPurworejo in the academic year of 2013/2014. This study belongs to Experimental research. To collect the data the researcher used test as the instrument. The data were collected through writing test. The experiment was held through pre test and post test. The researcher used two groups: experiment group and control group. In the control group the researcher used conventional technique, while in the experiment group the researcher used environmental media. The population of the study was the SeventhGrade Students of SMP MuhammadiyahPurworejo. The total number of the seventh grade students of SMP MuhammadiyahPurworejo is 194 students. The researcher took only 64 students. The mean score of control group is 61.94, and have sufficient ability in writing. While the mean score of experimental group is 70.45 andhave good ability in writing.The computation result of t-test was 2.563. The result of computation value is consulted to the 𝑡𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 at 0.05 significant level, the 𝑡𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 is 2.000.It is seen that the computation result (2.563) is higher than 𝑡𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒(2.000) in the significant level 0.05. From the result above, it could be concluded that there was significant difference in the achievement between the students who were taught using environmental media and students who were taught without environmental media. So, it could be concluded that environmental media was an effective medium of teaching writing in descriptive text. en_US
