Abstract:
Language is used to communicate and express our feeling with others.
Moreover, one of languages which we learn is English. The researcher thinks that
the most difficult skill to learn English is speaking. It requires chance, time,
experience, practice and certain skill, so that speaking cannot be learnt in
isolation. It is supported by some components of language and one of them is
pronunciation.The researcher used spoken narrative as a media to teach
pronunciation. The students must have confident to speak English, expecially how
to pronounce words fluently. By using spoken narrative, the students can learn
interestingly.
The aim of this research is to know whether spoken narrative is effective or
not to improve students’ pronunciation ability for the eleventh grade students of
MAN Purworejo in the academic year 2013/2014. In this research, the researcher
took 60 students. The researcher conducted pre-test and post-test. The researcher
use spoken narrative as a media to teach pronunciation. Statistically, the
researcher analyzed the data by using t-test.
The result of this research shows that spoken narrative is effective to
improve students’ pronunciation ability for the eleventh grade students at MAN
Purworejo in Academic year 2013/2014, since it was found that the result of tvalue
is 4.93 based on 0.05 significance level , the value of t-table is 2.000, the
computation shows that t-value is higher than t-table that is 4.93>2.000.
