dc.description.abstract English is an international language. Almost all countries have adapted English used as a compulsory subject at schools.Therefore, there are four skills in learning English must be acquired by students. Those are reading, speaking, writing and listening. Reading is one of the four language skills that are very important in learning English, so the students’ must learn it. Teaching reading in senior high school has not succeeded yet. Although students have learned the language for many years, they still have many difficulties to comprehend reading texts. Therefore, the technique used by teacher must be appropriate for them. By using SAVI Method help the students in understanding the content from explanation text given by teacher. Besides, the students will get new experience in learning reading and they will not feel bored. The aim of this research is to describe whether SAVI Method is effective or not for teaching reading at eleventh grade Students of SMK Tamtama kroya. In this research the researcher took 74 students as the sample. As the experimental group, the researcher used class which consists of 37 students XI MO 2. Meanwhile, as the control group, the researcher took 37 students of class XI MO 4. Then, the researcher gave pre-test and post-test to both classes. The researcher taught explanation text by using SAVI method to experimental group and common way to the control group. The writer then statistically analyzed the data by using t-test polled variance. After analyzing the data, the researcher concludes that teaching reading using SAVI method is effective. As the fact, the result of t-value is 4.189 based on the 0.05 significant level, the value of t-table is 1.993. The result of computation shows that t-value is higher than t-table, that is 4.189>1.993. So, it can be stated that the hypothesis “the use of SAVI method for teaching reading at the eleventh grade students of SMK Tamtama in the academic year of 2013/2014 is effective” is accepted. en_US
