Abstract:
The purpose of this research are (1).to describe the students’ vocabulary
mastery. (2).to describe the students’ writing ability. (3).to find out whether there
is any positive and significant correlation study between student’ vocabulary
mastery their writing ability. In addition, the researcher took 62 students among
the population 224 students in the eighth grade of SMP N 22 Purworejo as my
samples of my research.
The method of the research is test, the researcher got data using
vocabulary test and writing test. Then, the researcher calculates both manually and
by using SPSS version 16. Ba0sed on the computation, the researcher find three
things. First, the mean of students vocabulary mastery is 64.2 and it is categorized
as fair. Second, the mean of students writing ability is 64.3 and it is categorized as
fair. Third, there is a positive and significance correlation between students’
vocabulary mastery and their writing ability, the value of r is 0.587>0.254.
The findings shown above can be proved from the number of samples
(N=62) and the level of significance (5%), the result of the computation done both
manually and by SPSS is 0.587. Based on the value in the table of r product
moment, for N=62 and the significance level =5%, the value of r product moment
(rt) that is 0.587 > 0.254 and it is categorized as a medium correlation. It means
that there is a medium correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their
writing ability.
