Abstract:
The objective of this research is to describe the effectiveness of error
correction feedback to increase students’ writing ability at the seventh grade
students of SMP N 2 Ambal. Population of this research is all seventh grade
students that consist of 122 students. The researcher took two classes as sample.
They are A class that consists of 30 students as control class and D class that
consists of 30 students as experimental group.
The result shows that error correction feedback is effective to increase
students’ writing score. To measure the effectiveness of the use of error correction
feedback, the researcher used t test. This test was used to measure the difference
between mean of post test of experimental group and control group. From its
computation using SPSS 17.0, the result showed that shows that sig (2-tailed) was
0.01. From this calculation, it can be conclude that sig (2-tailed) < 5%(
0.01<0.050). Therefore, the researcher can conclude that error correction feedback
is effective. Moreover, there is significant difference writing score between
experimental group and control group.
Because of the effectiveness of error correction feedback to increase
students’ writing ability, the researcher suggests that English teachers can use
error correction feedback in teaching writing if they want to improve their
students’ writing ability. They can apply this method to make the students more
understanding the way to learn writing skill.
