The aim of this research is to find out whether teaching narrative text using CIRC Method is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension ability of the second grade students at State Junior High School 2 Puring in the academic year 2011/2012 or not. The type of the research is experimental and quantitative research. The population of this research is the second grade students of State Junior High School 2 Puring in the academic year 2011/2012. The sample of this research is two classes which are divided into experimental group (VIII D, 36 students) and control group (VIII E, 37 students). The sampling technique which is used is purposive sampling technique. The researcher then analyzed the data statistically by using t-test. The result of the research found that the using of CIRC Method is effective in teaching narrative text to improve the students’ reading comprehension ability. The highest score was 95 gotten by the student in experimental group after getting the treatment. Then the lowest score was 45, it was gotten by the students in control group. After doing the test, the Mean scores were found that the pre-test mean of the experimental group was 64.17, and the post-test was 80.13. Moreover, the mean pre-test of the control group was 62.70, and the post-test was 67.03. The computation of t-test shows that the Ha is accepted. It can be proven by the value of t – test is 2.28. Then the t – table is 1.671. The computation shows that the t - value is higher than t – table (2.28>1.671).
