Abstract:
Teaching children is different for teaching adult. Some important points
should be considered in teaching English to kindergarten students. Children are not
adult in a small size. They are still in the playing world and they have their own
characteristics as children, therefore kindergarten teacher should realize this in order
to make English lesson interesting to them through various activities with the use of
realia and pictures.
This thesis dealt with the designing of English instructional vocabulary
materials for Pertiwi 1 Kindergarten with the use of realia as the teaching media.
There were two problems in this study: (1) How is a set of English instructional
vocabulary materials for Pertiwi 1 Kindergarten with the use of realia as teaching
media designed? and (2) What will designed set of instructional materials look like?
There were three designs model discussed. They were ADDIE model,
Kemp’s model, and Robert Gagne model. It is to answer the first problem in the
Problem Formulation. The stages and the diagram of those models were presented in
chapter II.
To answer the second problem in this study, a set of designed materials were
presented. There are 6 units in the designed materials in which each unit is conducted
in one meeting. Since this study is aimed at designing a set of English instructional
vocabulary materials, each unit focuses on vocabulary mastery. Realia were chosen
to introduce English vocabulary to kindergarten students, since they were considered
suitable to the children who are still playing.
