Abstract:
The aim of this research is to describe whether field trip can improve students’
vocabulary mastery of SD N 1 Sebomenggalan. This study used an experimental
research. This research was conducted from May 23, 2012 to June 29, 2012. The
population of this research was all the fourth grade students of SD N 1
Sebomenggalan in 2011/2012 academic year. There are 37 students of the fourh
grade students.
The research instruments used to collect the data in this study were test and
documentation. The result of test was the students’ scores of pre test and post test.
The data, then, were analyzed by using t-test formula. The data analysis of the
research showed that (1) there was a significant difference in vocabulary
achievement between students taught by field trip and those taught without field
trip, (2) the group taught by field trip had a better achievement in vocabulary
mastery than those taught without field trip. The result of computation showed
that the t-observation (to) is 5.20. The critical value for the significance level of
= 0.05 with the degree freedom (df) = 36 was 2.02 . Since the obtained t-value
(5.20) was higher than the theoretical value (12.2) or tobservation was higher than
t table (to>tt), there was a significant difference between the students taught using
field trip and not using field trip.
Besides, the researcher found that the mean scores of pre test and post test were
different. The mean score of the post test (73.78) compared to pre test that got
(60.40), so the researcher concludes that the use of field trip enhances students’ vocabulary mastery especially for the fourth grade students of SD N 1
Sebomenggalan, Purworejo.
