dc.description.abstract English is the first foreign language in schools and even as one of the major lessons. The new curriculum is called KTSP, and the English curriculum is based on genre. Some kinds of genre are descriptive, narrative, procedure, report, etc. Narrative is a kind of genre which is given in the Junior High School. Learning narrative text will be more interesting if the media can be applied in the classroom activity. One media is Fairy Tale Video. Based on the statement above, the purpose of this study is to find out whether the use of Fairy Tale Video as a media to improve the students’ comprehension in narrative text is effective or not. The study is called experimental research. The population of this research is the eighth grade students of SMP N 33 Purworejo in the academic year of 2011/2012. Population of this research is 218 students. Sample of this research is two classes which are divided into control (VIII F, 31 students) and experimental group (VIII E, 31 students). The sampling technique which is used is a purposive sampling. To collect the data, the researcher used tests as the instrument. There were pre-test and post-test. Pre-test is conducted before the researcher gives a treatment to the students. Post-test is conducted after the researcher gives a treatment to the students. The type of the tests is a multiple choice tests which consist 25 questions in each test. After analyzing the data, the researcher concludes that the result of t-value is 3.15. Based on the 0.05 significant levels, the value of t-table is 2.000. The result of computation shows that t- value is higher than t-table.That is 3.15 > 2.000. Another fact shows that the method used is effective. It shown by the mean of experimental group that is higher than the mean of control group. In the experimental group, the mean is 78.84. On the contrary, the mean of control group is 71.87. Based on the result finding, it can be concluded that the use of Fairy Tale Video as a media to improve the students’ comprehension in narrative text is effective. The researcher hopes that the result of this study will be useful for students, teacher and headmaster who ever involve in education field. English teacher should pay attention to the media and should prepare media to support the teaching learning process. So, their English ability will increase. en_US
