Abstract:
The objective of the study was to find both Indonesian and western values
which were inserted at English textbook.
This research was descriptive qualitative research. This research was about
integration of both Indonesian and western values, as being the data. The data sources
were English textbook, journal, and several books. They were collected by reading
and taking note then analysis by critical discourse method.
The result of this research found Indonesian and western values are in English
textbook. The writer found that the textbook is consisted 679 Indonesian values or
51.25%, 489 western values or 36.90%, 157 Indonesian and western values or
11.85%. Those proportions indicated that English textbook received western culture
without deleting Indonesian values as called acculturation and renewed Indonesian
culture with western values but still characterizing the Indonesian values as called
assimilation as the characteristics of integration process. Therefore, cultural
integration is within the English textbook entitled Bahasa Inggris When English
Rings the Bell SMP/MTS Kelas VII/2013 can be found. As the result, the research is
expected to be useful for students, English teachers, and other writers for assisting
them to be aware of cultural values within textboo
