The Translation Analysis of Implicit Organizational Meaning of the Novel Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling and Its Indonesian Translation

Abstract

“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” is the sixth novel in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. Set during Harry Potter's 6th year at Hogwarts, Voldemort is definitely back and with a vengeance. Harry finds his world is yet again changing. Wizards and witches and Muggles are dying despite the efforts of the Ministry of Magic and the Order of the Phoenix to stop them. The war is back on. Despite the danger, Harry and his best friends, Ron and Hermione, reunite and return to the familiar life of Hogwarts for their 6th year. They find yet another Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher; Professor Snape. They begin their N.E.W.T. classes in preparation for life after Hogwarts, and Harry gets some much needed Potions help from the mysterious Half-Blood Prince. This study aims to find out how English implicit organizational meaning is translated into Indonesian. The objects of the analysis are sentences which contain implicit organizational meaning sentences in the novel ”Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” by J.K. Rowling and its Indonesian translation “Harry Potter dan Pangeran Berdarah Campuran” which is translated by Listiana Srisanti. Then, those sentences are taken as data. Implicit organizational meaning is divided into three kinds; those are ellipsis, substitutions, and passive sentence. In this study, the researcher conducts a qualitative research as there is a description of data from the source. By conducting this research, the researcher finds that in translating implicit organizational meaning in the novel “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” the translator has some considerations in doing that. Implicit organizational meaning can be translated implicitly or explicitly. The results of this research show that (1) A sentence is translated explicitly as the translator wants to get a clear and understandable meaning, (2) A sentence is translated implicitly as the translator wants to avoid redundancy and consider that the readers have already known that implicit sentence.
