Abstract:
In globalization era people needs to mastery English as International
language. People need to enrich the knowledge of linguistic mastery, especially
for the student of elementary school in ability to understand English as the target
language. To get success in teaching learning process the students need
motivation because motivation plays an important role in the learning English
process. The student’s motivation has a great influence in learning English
process because it has a great influence to the attitude in English lesson. The
students can gain a good result of their learning if they also have a good
motivation in their learning English. In other words, the students’ success or
failure in learning certain subject (English) can be identified through the student’s
motivation in learning subject.
Conducting this research, this is to know whether or not there is any
positive and significant correlation between the student’s motivation in learning
English and the student’ achievement on the fifth grade students of RSDBI class
in SDN Purworejo in the academic year of 2011/2012..The research population in
this research is the fifth grade student of SDN Purworejo. There were 81 students
and the researcher takes 40 students from A class and B class as the sample.
In collecting the data, the researcher uses two kinds of techniques are
applied. To get the data on student’s motivation, the writer will use questionnaire.
Meanwhile, in order to get the data on the student’s achievement, the researcher
uses a documentation technique which is taken from the school report card in the
second semester in the academic year of 2011/2012. The researcher uses a
correlation analysis and regression analysis.The mean score of the student’s
motivation is 68.63 and the mean score of the student’s achievement is 84.53. And
the correlation result is 0.499The t-observed is higher than the t-table (0.499>
3.12). It means that there is a correlation between the student’s motivation and the
student’s achievement. The result of the study shows that there is positive and
significant correlation between the student’s motivation and the student’s
achievement.
