Abstract:
English is the first foreign language in Indonesia. English has a major
position in Indonesian educational system.It is one of the compulsory subjects to
be studied in junior and senior high school in today’s Indonesian Curriculum. A
large number of public and private universities and colleges realize the demand of
producing graduates mastering English. There are three components of language,
namely: grammar, vocabulary and pronounciation. Vocabulary is one of the most
important language components. Therefore, teaching foreign language to students
should be interesting and fun to improve their motivation and as we know the
newest curriculum, without TeknologiInformasidanKomunikasi subject. Teacher
should use all media in the school, included computer as media in English subject.
Computer as media could be used for teaching vocabulary.
The goal of this research is to find out the effectiveness of use computer as
media to improve vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade students of State Junior
High School 1 Padureso in the Academic year 2012/2013. The researcher took
three classes as the sample, there are VII A, VII B, and VII C. VII A consist of 20
students and first half of VII B consist of 10 students as the control group and VII
C consist of 20 students and second half of VII B consist of 10 students as the
experimental group. While the instrument used in this thesis was test. In collecting
the data, the researcher used pre-test and post-test. In the research, researcher give
treatment after pre-test and before post-test in experimental group. In control
group without treatment, researcher only give pre-test and post-test. After getting
enough data, the researcher calculated the data using t-test polled-variance.
The result of the calculation shows that the mean score of pre-test and
post-test by control group are 57.47 and 68.73. The mean score of pre-test and
post-test by experimental group are 59.20 and 76.07. To see whether the
hypothesis is accepted or rejected, the t-value is consulted to the t-table at the 0.05
significance level. It shows that the t-table is 1.672 and the t-value is 4.277. It
means that t-value is higher than t-table, that is 4.277>1.672. The researcher can
be concluded that the use of computer as media to improve vocabulary mastery at
the seventh grade students of State Junior High School 1 Padureso in the
Academic year 2013/2014 is effective.
