Abstract:
This thesis is intended to know how far the students’ competence in
mastering conditional sentences in the second semester. It is also to know the
most difficult type faced by the students. Besides, it is to discuss the students’
efforts in facing the difficulty in mastering conditional sentences.
This research is conducted in 28th May, 2014. The participants of this
research are 34 students of class A from the second semester students. To conduct
this research, she uses descriptive qualitative research; she uses test and
questionnaire as the instrument to gain the data.
The result of this research shows that the students’ competence in
mastering conditional sentences is in fairly sufficient category. 17 students (50%)
are in fairly sufficient category; 7 students (20.59%) are in sufficient category; 5
students (14.7%) are in good category; 5 students (14.7%) are in poor category.
Besides, the most difficult type of conditional sentences faced by the second
semester students is conditional sentences type 3. 25 students (73.53%) say that
conditional type 3 is the most difficult type; 7 students (20.6%) students say that
conditional sentences type 2 is the most difficult type; 2 students (5.9%) students
say that conditional sentences type 1 is the most difficult one. Moreover, the
students’ efforts in facing the difficulty of mastering conditional sentences are
studying harder, understanding more, practicing more, and ask to others who have
capability in conditional sentences.
