dc.description.abstract English is an international language that makes it possible to everyone to communicate with other people around the world if someone has an ability to use English. The ability in using English is very important to everyone. Therefore, English becomes compulsory subject for elementary school students. The method used by the teacher must be appropriate for them. By using Quantum Teaching method, the students can have high motivation to learn English. As the result, they can learn vocabulary easily and interestingly. This thesis is entitled “the effectiveness of Quantum Teaching to improve vocabulary mastery of the fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 BaledonoPurworejo in the academic year 2011/2012”. It is aimed to find out how effective Quantum Teaching to improve vocabulary mastery for the fifth-grade students.The population of this research is the fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 1 BaledonoPurworejo in the academic year 2011/2012. The researcher took 32 students as the sample. In addition, the researcher collected the data by giving test and treatment. The researcher then analyzed the data statically by using t-test. The result of the thesis showed that the mean of pre-test was 74.2 and the mean of post-test was 88.4. The total score in pre-test was 2437 and the total score post-test was 2828. The result of analysis indicated that in teaching vocabulary by using Quantum Teaching is effective to make students enhance their vocabulary mastery. It was proved by the computation that value of t-test is 7.97, this value showed that there was significant difference because the t-valuewas higher than the t-table (7.97>1.697). It means that Ho was rejected and Hawas accepted. en_US
