Abstract:
The objective of this research is to find out whether video is effective or not
to improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text. In this research, the writer
took 62 students as the sample. As the experimental group, the writer used class

students of class X4. The writer gave pre-test and post-test to both classes. The
writer taught writing descriptive text by using video to the experimental group.
And then the writer statistically analyzed the data by using t-test.
After analyzing the data, the writer concluded that teaching by using video
was effective to improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text. As the fact,
the result of t-value is 5.62. Based on the 0.05 significant levels, the value of ttable
was 2.000. The result of computation showed that t-value was higher that ttable,
that is 5.62>2.000. Another fact was shown by the mean of experimental
group that was higher than the mean of control group. In the experimental group,
the mean was 70.87. On the contrary, the mean of control group was 57.93.
Based on the result, it reflects that the students’ ability has improved. They
can develop their ideas creatively. Moreover, they are not bored in learning
writing since this media was used.
