THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING COMIC TO TEACH NOUN PHRASE AT THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP PGRI 1 KEBUMEN IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2013/2014

Abstract

Noun phrase is very important in learning English. Learning noun phrase is very difficult for the seventh grade students If the teacher could take an appropriate media in teaching noun phrase, it would help the students to learning noun phrase. One of media teaching that can be used of teaching noun phrase using comic. This research aimed to know using comic for teach noun phrase at the seventh grade students of SMP PGRI 1 Kebumenin the academic year 2013/2014 is effective or not In collecting the data, the writer employed experimental method, which applied one group pre-test, treatment, and post-test design. The sample consists of 30 students to experiment class and 30 students to controlclass taken from the seventh grade students of SMP PGRI 1 Kebumen in academic year 2013/2014. The writer collected data by pre-test and post-test. The data collection was carried out on May12-19, 2014. In analyzing data, the writer used descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The result of the data shows that there are significant difference between experimental class and control class. Based upon the findings and analysis, the writer concludes that using comic to teach noun phrase is effective as media learning.The test result experimental is the highest score was 85, and the lowest was 60. The mean of experimental group was 72, the standard deviation was 6.51, and the variance was 42.41. The mean was included in the interval of 60 to 64. It means that the students of experimental group of the seventh grade students at SMP PGRI 1 Kebumen had good result on their assess noun phrase. Whereas the highest score of the students of control group was 75, and the lowest was 50. The mean of control group was 55, the standard deviation was 6.18, and the variance was 38.19. The mean was included in the interval of 50 to 54. It means that the students of control group on the seventh grade students of SMP PGRI 1 Kebumen had sufficient result on their make noun phrase ability. It is proved that using comic to teach noun phrase is effective at the seventh grade students of SMP PGRI 1 Kebumen in the academic year 2013/2014.
