Abstract:
This study is aimed at describing the students’ motivation in learning
reading comprehension ability, which focuses on two main issues: (1) Is there any
correlation of motivation in their reading comprehension ability of SMK Kartini
academic year 2011/2012? (2) How does their motivation in reading English in
reading comprehension ability?
This is a quantitative case study. Questionnaire and Reading Test were
used to collect the data. Samples were taken practically by the use of cluster
random sampling. The validity of the data was established by the use of Pearson
Product Moment formula. The data were consisted of questionnaire data and
reading test. They were analyzed by correlation analysis procedure.
Generally, students’ motivation in reading comprehension ability is
medium, the mean score was 62.35. Furthermore, in general, the students’ test in
reading comprehension was medium. Moreover, their average or mean score was
67.55
This shown that there is a significant correlation between the students’
motivation and their test in reading comprehension ability.
Based on the findings, it is suggested that teacher should help the students’
to increase their motivation. This can be done by giving the students’ chances to
ask questions, have discussions, express their ability in English, and try to help the
students’ to investigate and solve their problem in learning reading
comprehension ability. Moreover, the students’ should read as much as possible in
order to enrich their knowledge and practice their fluency in reading as well as
reading comprehension ability.
