Correlative Study between Students’ Vocabulary Mastery and Debate Skill on Fourth Semester Students of Muhammadiyah University Of Purworejo in the Academic Year 2014/2015. A Thesis. The objective of this thesis is to find out whether there are any positive and significant correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their debate skill. In this research the researcher used purposive sampling in taking the sample. The researcher took 31 students. In taking the data this thesis used multiple choices test to find the level of students’ vocabulary mastery. Meanwhile, to get the level of students’ debate skill the researcher used performance test during debate class observation. The observation was conducted on April 30th until May 21st. The result of this study shows that: (1) The vocabulary mastery level of the fourth semester students’ are categorized good, with mean score of 77, the highest score is 95, and lowest score is 65 (2) The debate skill level of the fourth semester students’ are categorized good, with mean score of 78, the highest score is 88, and lowest score is 73 (3) There is a significant and positive correlation between students vocabulary mastery and students debate skill. The correlation level between independent variable to dependent variable is 0.753. Based on the previous data it can be inferred that the correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and students’ debate skill is categorized high. Key words: Correlation, Vocabulary, Debate.
