Abstract
The study aims to know whether using a jigsaw puzzle is effective or not for teaching vocabulary. This study employs quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design. The population of this research is the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Purworejo in the academic year of 2023/2024 which consist of 63 students. The sample of this research is VII A and VII B that consist of 32 students each. The data were taken on June 11 until June 13, 2023. The data were collected by using pre-test and post-test. The result of this research showed that after the treatment, there was a different result between students taught using the Jigsaw Puzzle and those taught without using the Jigsaw Puzzle. The researcher found that students in the experimental class were better than those in control class. The mean of the experimental class post-test was 81.87. Meanwhile, the mean of the control class post-test was 75.10. The final result of the t-test analysis showed that Sig. (2-tailed) value is lower than the value of significant level (0.009<0.05). Therefore, the result indicates that Jigsaw Puzzle is effective to teach vocabulary mastery to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Purworejo in the academic year of 2023/2024.
