Videos in Teaching Listening of Eighth-Grade Students at SMPN 2 Sruweng
Kebumen in the Academic Year of 2024/2025”. A Thesis English Language
Education Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Purworejo Muhammadiyah
University.
This study aimed to find whether using VOA Learning English videos in
teaching listening of eight-grade students at SMPN 2 Sruweng Kebumen in the
academic year 2024/2025 is effective. The background of this study is based on the
fact that students encountered many difficulties in understanding English listening
material. The researcher applied quantitative method and one group pre-test and
post-test design. The sample consisted of 32 eight-grade students of VIII B which
was chosen through purposive sampling. Instrument used in this research was test,
which consisted of 20 multiple choice and 5 true-or false.
The result of the data analysis showed that the mean score increased from
56.50 to 64.13, which indicates significant improvement on students’ listening
comprehension. To answer the hypothesis, the researcher used paired sample t-test.
The significance value was 0.033 which was lower than the significance level 0.05.
In conclusion, this study found that using of VOA Learning English videos is
effective in teaching listening.
