Abstract
This research focuses on the type of clipping words found in Shang Chi
and The Legend of the Ten Rings movie script and its application in teaching
vocabulary. This research is aimed to identify the types of clipping words found in
the movie script and to describe the application of clipping words found in the
movie script in teaching vocabulary.
This research uses descriptive qualitative as a research design. The data
source is taken from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings movie script. In
analyzing the data, the researcher conducted some steps such as classifying,
coding, counting, applying the finding, and drawing conclusions and suggestions.
The result of this research shows that there are three types of clipping
words found in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings movie script. There
are 70 clipping words found in the movie script, it consists of 54 (77%) of back
clipping, 15 (22%) of fore clipping, 1 (1%) of complex clipping. The researcher
concluded that the most dominant clipping words found in the movie script is
back clipping. The result of this research can be applied for teaching vocabulary
for eleventh-grade students of Senior High School.
