The Effectiveness of Using Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy for Teaching Vocabulary at the Seventh Grade of SMP N 1 Sapuran Wonosobo in the Academic year of 2015/2016

Abstract
The aim of this research is to know the level of students’ vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade students of SMP N 1 SapuranWonosobo in the academic year of 2015/2016. Besides, the other aim of this research is to find out whether Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy is effective or not in teaching vocabulary at the seventh grade students of SMP N 1 SapuranWonosobo. This research is classified as an experimental research. Moreover, this research is conducted by using quantitative technique in processing the data and getting the result. Therefore, the type of this research is experimental quantitative research. In this research, the researcher took 56 students which are divided into control (VII F, 28 students) and experimental group (VII G, 28 students) at the seventh grade students of SMP N 1 SapuranWonosobo in the academic year of 2015/2016. The researcher conducted pre-test and post-test. The researcher usedVocabulary Self-Collection Strategy as a strategy to teach vocabulary. Statistically, the researcher analyzed the data by using t-test. The result of this research shows that Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy is effective for teaching vocabulary for the seventh grade students of SMP N 1 SapuranWonosobo in the Academic year of 2015/2016, since it was found that the result of t-test is 7.35 based on 0.05 significance level, and the value of t-table is 2.00. Therefore, the computation shows that t-test is higher than t-table that is 7.35 > 2.00.
