Abstract
Theَ objectiveَ ofَ thisَ researchَ is:َ 1)َ toَ describeَ theَ students’َ Englishَ
vocabulary and 2) to find out whether or not using TikTok videos the effective for
increase vocabulary. This study employed quantitative research with a quasi-
experimental design. The research was carried out at SMPN 36 Purworejo. It was
conducted from Mei 23rd to Juni 17th, 2023. The population of this research is the
eighth-grade students of SMPN 36 Purworejo in the academic year of 2022/2023
which consists of 192 students. The sample of this research is VIII A and VIII E
which consist of 64 students. Both classes consist of 32 students were chosen by
purposive sampling. The data were collected by using tests and closed - ended
questionnaire. The results of this research shows that after the treatment, there is a
difference in the results between students taught using TikTok videos and those
without using TikTok videos.
The research finding shows that the mean of experimental class post-test is
70.50. Meanwhile, the mean of control class post - test is 62.28. The final result of
the t-test analysis shows that the Sig. (2 - tailed) value is lower than 0.05 (0.000 <
0.05) and the Tvalue is higher than the Ttable (4.656 > 2.000). As a result, the
alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Additionally, the questionnaire it is
revealed that students of the experimental class have good perceptions. The result
indicates that TikTok videos have a significant effect to increase vocabulary the
students at eighth of SMPN 36 Purworejo in the academic year of 2022/2023.
Therefore, it is recommended that English teacher be: (1) innovative in guiding
students in exploring TikTok videos as learning materials so that they can grasp
them and (2) creative and innovative in selecting and presenting material based on
their requirements
