THE ANALYSIS OF ILLOCUTIONARY ACTS AND PERLOCUTIONARY ACTS FOUND IN THE BFG MOVIE AND ITS APPLICATION IN TEACHING SPEAKING

dc.description.abstractThis research aims to analyze the illocutionary acts and perlocutionary acts found in the utterances of the characters of The BFG movie and to describe the application of illocutionary acts and perlocutionary acts found in the utterances of the characters of The BFG movie in teaching speaking. This research is qualitative research. The data is English illocutionary acts and perlocutionary acts found in the utterances of the characters of The BFG movie. It is collected by downloading the movie, watching the movie, searching the script, checking the accuracy between the script and the dialogue, taking notes of the utterances, and recording the data. From the research, the researcher founds 5 types of illocutionary acts (246 utterances or 87.54%) in the utterance of the characters of The BFG movie. Those types are as follow: 61 utterances (24.80%) contain Assertives, 122 utterances (49.60%) contain Directives, 19 utterances (7.72%) contain Commissives, 41 utterances (17.07%) contain Expressives, and 2 utterances (0.81%) contain Declarations. The researcher also found 35 utterances (12.46%) as the perlocutionary act that produced by the character of The BFG movie. The application of illocutionary acts and perlocutionary acts in teaching learning is to teach speaking with the material of obligation, prohibition, and suggestion (advice) in eight grade of Junior High School. English teachers and students in Junior High School can use this research as a reference in teaching and learning speaking by using movie as a media.
