Written language has its own style. This study investigates the
stylistic form in editorial of the Jakarta Globe online newspaper and to
describe its application in teaching writing.
Descriptive qualitative is used in this study because the researcher
describes the application of stylistic analysis in the editorial in teaching
writing. The researcher takes the data from editorials published by the
Jakarta globe on April 28th and 29th 2015. The researcher uses
documentation to collect the data. She did the steps such as reading,
identifying, and concluding the data.
The editorial 1 text consist of 4 words have prefixes; 13 simple
sentences, 6 complex sentences, and 1 compound-complex sentence; 14
technical words, 1 collocation, 14 enumerations, 29 abstract nouns, 28
verbs, and 11 adjectives. The editorial 1 belongs to criticize type, has
literary discourse, has a political judicial context, and has many deictic
expressions. The editorial 2 text consist of 6 words have prefixes, 7 simple
sentences, 2 compound sentences, 5 complex sentences, and 1 compoundcomplex
sentence; 17 technical words, 1 collocation, 13 enumerations, 17
abstract nouns, 27 verbs, and 10 adjectives. The editorial 2 belongs to
explain type, has literary discourse, has a political judicial context, and has
many deictic expressions. Types of sentence analysis can be applied to
teach English about how to make sentence in grade XI of senior high
school. The students and the teachers should learn more about stylistic
analysis in order to create correct structure of the sentence.
