Abstract
The objectives of this study are: (1) to describe the present textbooks used by
English teachers at Accountancy Program at SMK 2 Purworejo. (2) to describe the
quality of the present English Textbook used in English teaching at SMK N 2
Purworejo. (3) to explain to what extend do the teachers and the students need
ESP-content based English materials in their English Textbooks. (4) to describe
ESP-content based textbook of English for Accountancy Program of SMK N 2
Purworejo.
This research analyzes the accountancy students’ need in learning material at
eleventh grade student SMK Negeri 2 Purworejo due to the accountancy students
learn English using English textbook which has same content with other majors.
The subject of this research was the eleventh grade of accountancy students in XI
AKL 3 and AKL 4. This research used descriptive qualitative research with
questionnaire as the instrument in collecting data. To analyze the data, the
researcher involved three activities: giving questionnaire to accountancy students,
analyzing and describing the obtained data, and calculating percentage of
students’ answer in questionnaire.
The result of this research shows that the eleventh grade of accountancy
student needs more specific English material and English skill in accountancy
field. Therefore, to maximize their competence in accountancy, the accountancy
students hope that the school can afford and provide textbook based on ESP.
