The objective of this research is to describe whether the use of “SAVI
(Somatic, Auditory, Visual, Intellectual)Method” is effective to increase students’
reading Abilityon the eleventh grades students of SMA MuhammadiyahPurworejo
in academic year 2014/2015.
This research consists of two variables; independent variable and
dependent variable. The independent variable of this research is the use of textbased
instruction. Then, the dependent variable is the students’ rreadingAbility.
The population of this research was the eleventh grade students’ of
SMAMuhammadiyahPurworejo in the academic year of 2015/2016 with the total
number 224. The sample of this research consisted of 64 students. The technique
of data collection was using test. It was done by giving pre-test and post-test.
Meanwhile, the technique of data analysis was using descriptive analysis and
inferential analysis. The inferential analysis was done by SPSS.
The result of this research showed that SAVI Method is effective to
improve students’ readingreading Ability. The students’ achievement in pre-test
and post-test showed a significant improvement. The students’ mean of control
group after doing pre-test was 63.63. Meanwhile, the mean score of experimental
group after doing pre-test was 62.88. The mean score of experimental group after
doing post-test was 80.06. In other side, the mean score of control group after
doing post-test was 73.34. Based on the computation of t-test using SPSS, the
result was 4.54 and p-value < (0.00< 0.05). It showed that there was significant
difference between control group and experimental group. From the result, the
researcher concludes that SAVI (Somatic, Auditory, Visual, Intellectual)Method
is effective to improve students’ reading Abilityat Eleventh Grade Students of
SMA Muhammadiyah Purworejo at the Academic Year 2015/2016.
