Linguistics has a subject matter, which is language. Humans communicate with language. Without a language, a person cannot communicate with others. Language is important communication tool that people can use to express their feelings, thoughts and also share ideas so they can interact and get contact with other easily. According to Johnston (2008) Language is the process or set of processes used to ensure there is agreement between the sender and receiver for meanings assigned to the symbols and the schema for combining them used for each communication.We use Indonesian language, but we also need to learn foreign languages, for example English language. Many countries use English to communicate and convey message or idea to others. People all over the world uses English as an international language. English plays as an important role in vast global such us bussines, education, culture and technology. It can not be ignored by anyone because English as a link to connect the whole world together. Moreover, English is one of International Languages which should be developed for all people in the world.
- ItemA Case Study of the 2013 Curriculum Implementitation Faced by English Teachers at MA N Gombong in the Academic Year 2016/2017(Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Pendidikan Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo, 2017-08-12) Firman Alamsyah 132120157This research is to analyze: (1) How teachers’ lesson plan in implementing the 2013 curriculum at MA N Gombong (2) How teachers’ learning process in implementing the 2013 curriculum at MA N Gombong and (3) How teachers’ learning evaluation in implementing the 2013 curriculum at MA N Gombong. This research is a descriptive qualitative research because it is aimed to analyze the 2013 curriculum implementation rather than number. The subject of this research is English teachers and object of this research is the 2013 curriculum. The technique of collecting data is observation, interview, questionnaire and document. The result of this research shows that the English teachers at MA N Gombong in arranging and developing lesson plan is good enough. It can be seen that they arrange lesson plan by individual then discuss with other English teacher at MA N Gombong. The lesson plan contents and the steps in developing lesson plan are appropriate with Permendikbud Number 81A of 2013 about Implementation of Curriculum which is as a reference in arranging lesson plan in the 2013 curriculum. The English teachers at MA N Gombong know about scientific learning, but in implementing scientific learning cannot be said totally successful although they have implemented five sequences of scientific learning. It is caused by students’ different background knowledge. The English teachers at MA N Gombong in implementing the 2013 curriculum in learning evaluation cannot be said completely successful although they use most of technique which is stated by Ditjen Dikdasmen of 2015 about Guidance of Assessment. It is caused by the English teachers at MA N Gombong do not always use the technique of skill assessment
- ItemA COMPARATIVE STUDY OF STUDENTS' LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT IN ENGLISH SUBJECT BEFORE COVID 19 AND DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC AT THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF PKBM MEKAR PURWOREJO IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2020/2021(ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION PROGRAM TEACHER TRAINING AND EDUCATION FACULTY OF PURWOREJO MUHAMMADIYAH UNIVERSITY, 2023-09-11) YOLANDA TASYA TILLANAThe purpose of this study was to determine student learning outcomes before and during Covid-19 at PKBM Mekar Purworejo in academic year 2020/2021 and to find out whether there were differences in student outcomes at PKBM Mekar Purworejo before Covid-19 and during Covid-19. The research design is quantitative with a comparative hypothesis. The population of this study were Paket C students (equivalent to SMA/MA) at PKBM Mekar Purworejo with a total population and sample of 19 students. To get the data, the researcher took the results of the final test that had been done by the students. Techniques for analyzing data are descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. Both techniques are used to answer statements of problems and hypotheses. The results of this study indicate that the outcomes of student learning before Covid-19 were in the "good" category with a mean value of 74.63, while for student outcomes during Covid-19 they were in the "excellent" category with a mean value of 85.05. The result of calculating the hypothesis test using SPSS with the Mann-Whitney U-test method shows the Assymp. Sig. (2-tailed) is lower than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). Therefore, the researchers concluded that there was a significant difference between student outcomes before and during Covid-19 at PKBM Mekar Purworejo in the academic year 2020/2021
- ItemA correlation study between students’ motivation and their speaking skill at the eleventh grade students in SMK Batik Sakti 2 Kebumen in the academic 2015/ 2016(Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Pendidikan Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo, 2016-02-25) Tutur 102120177The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is a correlation or not between students’ motivation and their speaking skill at the eleventh grade student of SMK Batik Sakti 2 Kebumen. In this research the researcher took 40 students of sample. The sampling technique which is used is purposive sampling. The instrument used to collect the data is test. To analyze the data, the reseacher uses oral test and questionnaire. The result of this study show that there is a positive correlation between students’ motivation in learning speaking and their speaking ability. It is proved by the rxy (0.796) is higher than rtable in the degree significance 5% (0.311) and 1% (0.402). It is considered that the null hypothesis (Ho) in this study rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) which is states that there is correlation between students’ motivation in learning speaking and their speaking ability is accepted. In conclussion, there is positive correlation between students’ motivation in learning speaking and their speaking abiity. It means that students with higher motivation will get better speaking ability then the lower one. In other words, the higher motivated students, the better speaking ability can be achieved.

A Thesis. English Language Education. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Purworejo Muhammadiyah University. 2019. This research is concerned with compound words found in education articles of The Jakarta Post. The aims of this research are to find out the types of compound words, to find out the meaning of compound words found in education articles of The Jakarta Post, and to describe the application in teaching vocabulary at tenth grade of senior high school. This research belonged to descriptive qualitative research because the data of this research is collected by classifying the compound words found in the education articles and the researcher as the key instrument. In collecting the data, the researcher found, selected, read the education articles, and found the compound words in the education articles. In analyzing the data, the researcher identified, classified, counted, gave codes, described the types and the meaning of compound words, applied the result of the analysis to teach vocabulary, and drew conclusion and discussion. The result of this research showed that there are 91 compound words found in education articles of The Jakarta Post published on March 2019. Based on the types of compound words, there are four types found in education articles of The Jakarta Post. They are 50 compound nouns (54,95%), 8 compound verbs (8,79%), 21 compound adjectives (22,08%), and 12 compound adverb (13,19%). Based on the meaning of compound words, there are two meaning. They are endocentric and exocentric compound. Endocentric compound is more dominant than exocentric compound. There are 55 exocentric compounds (60,44%) while, there are only 36 endocentric compounds (39,56%) found in education articles of the Jakarta Post. - ItemA Morphological Analysis Of Derivational And Inflectional Morphemes On Novel Entitled “The School For Good And Evil” Written By Soman Chainani And Its Application In Teaching Vocabulary At Senior High School.(Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Pendidikan Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo, 2016-08-13) Arnold Febi Prasetia 122120004The aims of this research are to find out the forms of derivational morphemes in the novel entitled ―The School for Good and Evil‖, to find out the types of inflectional morphemes in the novel entitled ―The School for Good and Evil‖, and to describe the application of derivational and inflectional morphemes in the novel entitled ―The School for Good and Evil‖ in teaching vocabulary. This research uses a descriptive qualitative research. The object is the novel entitled ―The School for Good and Evil‖. The data of this study are derivational and inflectional morphemes in the novel. In order to analyze the data, some steps are conducted. The data is taken from the novel. The researcher reads the novel to collect the data. The result of this research shows that there are four forms of derivational morphemes found: 137 nouns (30.04%), 25 verbs (5.48%), 118 adverbs (25.87%), 176 adjectives (38.60%) and there are eight types of inflectional morphemes found: 90 plurals (6.56%), 28 possessives (2.04%), 134 present tenses (9.76%), 257 present participles (18.73%), 395 past participles (28.80%), 441 past tenses (32.14%), 13 comparatives (0.94%), and 14 superlatives (1.02%). The application of derivational and inflectional morphemes in the novel entitled ―The School for Good and Evil‖ in teaching vocabulary at eleventh grade of Senior High School. The teacher can apply three main steps. They are pre teaching, whilst teaching and post teaching. Affixation can guess the meaning of new word to improve the students‘ vocabulary.

The aim of this research is to find out the types of inflectional morphemes found in education articles of the Jakarta Post. This research is also to describe the application in teaching writing at tenth grade of Senior High School. This research is descriptive research because the data of this research is collected by classifying inflectional morphemes found in education articles and the researcher as the key instrument. The researcher found the education articles the Jakarta Post, selected the education articles, read the education articles, identified the inflectional morphemes, and gave code of each data. In analyzing the data, the researcher classified the types of inflectional morphemes, described how to apply the inflectional morphemes in teaching writing, and makes a conclusion of the finding and discussion. The result of this research showed that there are 1152 inflectional morphemes found in education articles of The Jakarta Post published on March 2019. Based on the types of inflectional morphemes, there are eight types. They are 56 3rd person present tense singular (4.861 %), 61 possessive (5.295 %), 640 plural (55.556 %), 21 progressive aspect (1.823 %), 150 past tense (13.021 %), 157 perfective aspect (13.628 %), 50 comparative form of adjective (4.340 %), and 17 superlative form of adjective (1.476 %). The type of inflectional morphemes that is most used in newspaper is plural because the language feature of news item is noun. This research can be applied in teaching writing at Senior High School by using past tense and perfect tense in recount text. The students can learn inflectional morphemes to develop their English mastery especially in writing competence.

(2) to describe the quality of the present English Textbook used in English teaching at SMK N 2 Purworejo. (3) to explain to what extend do the teachers and the students need ESP-content based English materials in their English Textbooks. (4) to describe ESP-content based textbook of English for Accountancy Program of SMK N 2 Purworejo. This research analyzes the accountancy students’ need in learning material at eleventh grade student SMK Negeri 2 Purworejo due to the accountancy students learn English using English textbook which has same content with other majors. The subject of this research was the eleventh grade of accountancy students in XI AKL 3 and AKL 4. This research used descriptive qualitative research with questionnaire as the instrument in collecting data. To analyze the data, the researcher involved three activities: giving questionnaire to accountancy students, analyzing and describing the obtained data, and calculating percentage of students’ answer in questionnaire. The result of this research shows that the eleventh grade of accountancy student needs more specific English material and English skill in accountancy field. Therefore, to maximize their competence in accountancy, the accountancy students hope that the school can afford and provide textbook based on ESP.

This study aims at finding types of commissive speech act in Deadpool movie and its application in teaching speaking. This study used descriptive qualitative research design. In this research, the object was several main characters in Deadpool movie The the researcher used primary and secondary data to support the data such as Deadpool movie script .This research took the utterance found in Deadpool movie focused on types of speech act based on Austin theory.The steps were downloading the movie, classifying the data source into some categories based on the theory of commissive. Wrotes the data into paper sheets. After that, she gives a code to each data to ensure that the data have been taken properly to analyze. The results of this research shows that there are ten types of commissive speech acts in Deadpool movie namely Threat. 4 (5.55 %), promise 4 (5.55%) warning 1 (1.38%) refusal 2 (2.77%) offer 8 (11.11%), swear 48 (66.66%) guarantee 1 (1.38 %) vow 3 (4.16%) pledge planning 1 (1.38%). In this research, commissives speech acts can be applied as a material in teaching speaking. It can be expression offering and intention to do something. Those are included in 2013 curriculum in senior high school

Compliment is a speech act that frequently occurs in everyday conversation. The objectives of this research are to analyze the topic compliments expression, responses to compliment, and to describe the application of complimenting expression used by the characters in teaching speaking. This research is a qualitative research. This research uses a pragmatic approach. The researcher takes data from film and it is in form of script of film. To collect the data, the researcher did some steps: the first downloading The Moana film and script, the second checking both film, and the third script in order to have exact data. Then, to analyze the data, the researcher uses theory from Ishihara and Cohen about topic of compliment and Tran about response of compliment. From the research result, the researcher finds three topics of compliments expressed by the characters in the film Moana. They are an expression of appearance/possession 6 data (21%), performance/skills/abilities 20 data (69%), and personality traits 3 data (10%). There are three responses of compliments used by the characters in the film Moana, those are acceptance 20 data (69%), rejections 6 data (21%), and avoid self-praise 3 data (10%). The result of analysis of compliments that used in Moana film can be applied in teaching speaking of Vocational High School. - ItemA Study Of Extroverted And Introverted Personality And Its Influences To The Students’ Speaking Skill (A Case Study of the second Semester Students of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University in the Academic Year 2015/2016)(Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Pendidikan Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo, 2016-08-25) LUHERA JOHAN P.B 122120232The aims of this research are to describe the students’ personality especially extroverted and introverted and to find out the influence of personality to the students’ speaking skill in the classroom of the second semester students of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University in the academic year 2015/2106. This research is a mixed method because to analyze and to describe the different personality, the form of data is in the word form and number. In collecting the data, the researcher makes questionnaire about personality. The questionnaire is for identifying different kinds of personality. To prove the students’ personality, the researcher takes classroom observation while he also records the students’ performance in speaking class. In analyzing the students’ personality based on the questionnaire, the researcher uses specific answer sheet, and then calculates the score of midterm test to find the average value of introvert and extrovert. The result shows that the students have different psychological typing. Some students belong to extroverted personality and some of them belong to introverted personality. From the 40 sample of research, there are 10 students who belong to introverted type and 30 students belong to extroverted type. From the result score of speaking midterm test, the lowest speaking score is 62 and the highest speaking score is 94. The researcher finds that there are some differences occured in the speaking score done by the students due to their different personality. It is proven by their procentage the introverted lowest score on the ptable is 90% while extroverted is 66.6%, introverted medium score in the p-table is 10% while extroverted is 30% and the introverted highest score is 0% while extroverted is 3,3% . it mean the introverted score ≤ extroverted score.

Keywords: Study, Reading, Team-based Learning, teaching The objective of this research is to describe whether Team-based learning can use to teaching Reading at the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Kajoran in academic year 2014/2015 or not. In this research, the researcher took 28 students as the subject of the research. In this observation research, the researcher gave the teacher method is Team-based learning and then the teacher apply this method in teaching reading for Junior high school. This research is classroom observation research because the researcher gives a teaching method that has to apply. The researcher act as observer and the teacher act as object of observation. After analyzing the data, After analyzing data about improvement students’ reading skill through Team-based learning, can be concluded that the method of Team-based Learning is not appropriate for Junior High school especially students in eighth grade of SMP N 1 Kajoran. It can be seen from the teacher role when he applies in the class. In the first meeting, based on the observation sheet above, it showed that the teacher does not apply the role of Team-based learning, especially in the pre teaching. He just started by greeting, asked students to pray together, checking attendance, and then asked students the following questions related the material. Then, in the whilst teaching, teacher gives a text 5-10 pages to students but the students can not read all because limited time. So, in the first meeting the teacher’s role of Team-based learning did not do as a whole. In the second meeting, based on the observation sheet above, when teacher gives a text 5-10 pages, the students did not read all the pages again because of limited time. But the teacher was able to perform these steps properly. When the teacher wants to circulate and encourages team to appeal question they got incorrect, the teacher leaves the classroom because he called headmaster. So, after all of the process had finished, teacher evaluated students by giving evaluation test. The evaluations were used to control learning program. The last, teacher asked students to said hamdalah together then he closed the meeting.

An Analysis of Adverbial Clause Found in Ernest Hemingway’s Short Story Entitled “Big Two-Hearted River” and Its Application In Teaching Writing. S1 Thesis : English Language Education. Teacher Training and Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah Unversity. In this world, there are millions of languages. Every country has different languages as their own identity. English is one of the official languages used by people around the world to communicate both in formal areas such as government, administration, education, justice, business, mass media and also for international diplomacy. As a universal language, English also has been taught in Indonesia in every level of education. In learning English, there are some skills that must be studied by the students. This study aims to fnd out types of adverbial clause in the Ernest Hemingway’s short story entitled “Big Two-Hearted River” and to describe the application of adverbial clause in teaching writing in Senior High School’s students. The researcher uses a descriptve qualitative method because the process of collecting the data, it is done by classifying types of adverbial clause in the short story. In addition, the researcher is as the key instrument of the research. The result shows that there are 55 adverbial clauses found in the short story. The researcher finds there are 30 adverbial clause of time (54,55%), 10 adverbial clause of manner (18,18%), 6 adverbial clause of place (10,91%), 4 adverbial clause of cause and effect (7,27%), and 5 adverbial clause of condition (9,09%). Besides that, there are three adverbial clauses that the researcher does not find in the short story. They are adverbial clause of concession, purpose, and comparison. In conclusion, the writer finds 5 types of adverbial clauses based on Carillo’s theory. In addition, there are some functions of adverbs in writing, such as to modify adjective, modify adverb, modify verb, and modify prepositional phrase. - ItemAn Analysis of Al Qalb in the Holy Qur’an and Its Implication for Character Education(Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Pendidikan Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo, 2016-08-11) Muhammad Syaefulloh 122120240The objective of this study are: 1) to explain the gramatical forms of alqalb in the Holy Qur’an, 2) to explain the meanings of al-qalb in the Holy Qur’an, 3) to describe the implication of al-qalb for character education in Senior High School. This study uses descriptive research. The data is collected by documentation. The primary data is taken from the Holy Qur’an in every surah as the main source of the data. The secondary data were taken from English translation in electronic Holy Qur’an. The procedure of analyzing the data begins by analyzing the grammatical of al-qalb in Holy Qur’an, the meaning of al-qalb and the implication of al-qalb for character education. The result of this study shows that the grammatical form of al-qalb are noun,133 data (79.16 %), Adjective 0 %, preposition 0%, verb 35 data (20.84 %), and foradverb 0%. The meaning of al-qalb there are heart 133 data ( 79.16%), turn back 11 data ( 6.54%), return 15 data (8.92%), turn away 1 data (0.60%), Organize 1 data (0.60%), Come back 6 data (3.58%) and unstable 1 data (0.60%). The implication of the result, it is focused for character education in senor high school. There are fourteen characters in English cyllabus ( religious, honesty, tolerant, dicipline, hard work, curiosity,stand alone, democratic, enthusiasm, love, respect, friendly, care, and responsibility.All of the meanings of Al Qalb in Holy Qur’an can be applied in all characters in cyllabus except “turn back” in QS Al Baqarah: 144 and “turn back” in QS Al Hajj : 11.
- ItemAn Analysis of Deictic in The Main Character's Hatred Depicted in Movie Script Maleficent: The Mistress of Evil and Its Implementation in Teaching Vocabulary(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-08) Laela SavarrohmahDeictic expressions, like "here," "there," "this," and "that," depend on the context and speaker's location for their meaning. These words require the listener to understand the speaker's perspective to comprehend their full meaning. The objectives of this study are to explain the types of deictic expressions found in the dialogue of the main character in the movie *Maleficent: The Mistress of Evil* and to describe how these deictic expressions can be implemented in teaching vocabulary. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The technique for collecting data involves analyzing deixis expressions from the dialogues of the main character in Maleficent: The Mistress of Evil. This process includes watching the movie to understand and identify key details, reading and observing the dialogue from the movie script, and finding sentences that contain different types of deixis. The result of the study indicates that there are five types of deixis are identified in movie Maleficent: Mistress of Evil including: person deixis (67%, 29 instances), time deixis (7%, 3 instances), place deixis (14%, 6 instances), social deixis (9%, 4 instances), and discourse deixis (2%, 1 instance), with a total of 40 deixis. Person deixis is the most prevalent, reflecting the main character's frequent use of personal pronouns to describe participants. Additionally, the study explores the application of deixis in English vocabulary teaching, suggesting that despite the lack of specific deixis instruction in the curriculum, the use of personal pronouns in the movie can help students identify and write down these forms through subtitles. This approach can enhance vocabulary teaching by encouraging students to record and explore unusual words they encounter.

These words require the listener to understand the speaker's perspective to comprehend their full meaning. The objectives of this study are to explain the types of deictic expressions found in the dialogue of the main character in the movie *Maleficent: The Mistress of Evil* and to describe how these deictic expressions can be implemented in teaching vocabulary. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The technique for collecting data involves analyzing deixis expressions from the dialogues of the main character in Maleficent: The Mistress of Evil. This process includes watching the movie to understand and identify key details, reading and observing the dialogue from the movie script, and finding sentences that contain different types of deixis. The result of the study indicates that there are five types of deixis are identified in movie Maleficent: Mistress of Evil including: person deixis (67%, 29 instances), time deixis (7%, 3 instances), place deixis (14%, 6 instances), social deixis (9%, 4 instances), and discourse deixis (2%, 1 instance), with a total of 40 deixis. Person deixis is the most prevalent, reflecting the main character's frequent use of personal pronouns to describe participants. Additionally, the study explores the application of deixis in English vocabulary teaching, suggesting that despite the lack of specific deixis instruction in the curriculum, the use of personal pronouns in the movie can help students identify and write down these forms through subtitles. This approach can enhance vocabulary teaching by encouraging students to record and explore unusual words they encounter.

In this study, the researcher intended to analyze deixis used in English Indonesian translation of Surah Al Fajr verse 1 until verse 30. The purpose of this study is to describe the kinds of deixis found in English Indonesian translation of Surah Al Fajr and to describe how to teach grammar in reading narrative text using the deixis at the eleventh grade students of Senior High School. This research is qualitative research. The instrument of research is the researcher. The researcher collected the data with five steps, firstly, the researcher finding English Indonesian translation of the surah. Then, the researcher read the surah. Then, the researcher identify all of verse which contains the deixis types suitable Cummings’ theory. Finally, giving code and writing the data. The result shows that the kinds of deixis in surah Al Fajr verse 1 until verse 30 are 49 kinds of deixis. There are 32 person deixis (65.3%), 7 time deixis (14.3%), 7 place deixis (14.3%), 2 discourse deixis (4.1%), and 1 social deixis (2%). The analysis of deixis can be applied in teaching grammar in reading narrative text at the eleventh grade students of senior high school. Students can identify personal pronoun of the text because personal pronoun is one of types of deixis.

Bahasa Inggris, FKIP, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo, 2025-03-01) Anisa Nasywa Wahyuni, Semi Sukarni , Abdul NgafiThis paper presents the results of a study analyzing the persuasive language found in Instagram captions of four skincare advertisements: Pond’s (@pondsindonesia), Skintific (@skintificid), Somethinc (@somethincofficial), and The Originote (@theoriginote). The types of persuasive language were identified based on Lamb’s theory (2014). Using a descriptive qualitative method, the researcher collected forty data samples from the four skincare brands, with each brand contributing ten Instagram posts. From the forty captions analyzed, the distribution of persuasive language features was as follows: alliteration (1 caption), allusion (4 captions), analogy (2 captions), appeals (3 captions), cliché (1 caption), colloquial language (1 caption), connotation (1 caption), emotive language (3 captions) , evidence (4 captions), hyperbole (2 captions), imagery (1 caption), inclusive language (3 captions), jargon (2 captions), metaphor (3 captions), pun (3 captions), and rhetorical question (6 captions). Among all the persuasive language features identified, rhetorical questions were the most frequently used in skincare advertisements. This highlights the strategic role of rhetorical questions in engaging consumers through Instagram captions. Building on these findings, future research could expand the dataset, compare platforms or product categories, and examine audience responses to evaluate the effectiveness of such strategies. The objectives of this research are to (1) identify the types of politeness strategies performed by Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton n Fiery Presidential Debate 2016, (2) describe the realization of politeness strategies in Fiery Presidential Debate 2016, and to (3) to describe the implementation of politeness strategy in teaching speaking. This research is descriptive qualitative. It is concern with the description of the data in the form of utterances produced by the candidates in which politeness strategies exist. There were two sources in this research. The primary source is the script of the video. The secondary sources are books and journals. In conducting this research, the researcher (1) classifying, (2) interpreting, and (3) reporting. In the realization of the politeness strategies, both candidates Donald Trump mostly applied bald on record strategy. Bald on record strategy occurs 18 times. The second position is positive politeness strategy which happens 14 times. The third position is off record strategy which happens 8 times. The last position is negative politeness which takes place 4 times. Besides, Hillary Clinton prefers to apply positive politeness in the debate to omit any gaps between her and the hearer which is proved by 23 times it is applied along the debate. Bald on record is the second highest frequent strategies she used to convince the hearer she is good with the numbers 12 times out of 87. The next is negative politeness that occurs 5 times out of 87, and off record appears 3 times in the debate. The result of the analysis of politeness strategy can be applied in teaching speaking in senior high school by using debate transcript to create activities which helps students practice speaking such as making conversation to deliver opinion. Of course, a teacher must simplify the structure, vocabulary, grammar, and the topic to be adjusted to the students‘ level of English mastery so it will be easy to learn and handle.

This study aims to analyze grammatical errors made by tenth-grade students of SMK Ma'arif NU 1 Bener in writing descriptive texts, particularly with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, the study identifies and categorizes grammatical errors based on the taxonomy: omission, addition, misformation, misordering, and capitalization. The data were collected from students' written texts and analyzed using qualitative data analysis procedures, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The study reveals the nature and patterns of grammatical errors in students' writing, providing insight into their common linguistic challenges. The integration of AI assistance, such as ChatGPT and other tools, is also examined to support students' writing performance. The findings of this research are expected to contribute to more effective instructional strategies to improve students' grammar mastery in descriptive writing.
