- ItemAnalysis of Presupposition Used by the Main Characters in Kenneth Branagh’s Movie Cinderella and Its Application in Teaching Reading(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024) An’nisaa Kurnia Ardi Nadia RohmahThis research focuses on analyzing the type of presupposition used by the main characters in Kenneth Branagh's movie Cinderella and describing its application in teaching reading. The data of this research is the dialogue of the main characters in the movie. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze the data. The data is analyzed by identifying each utterance of the main characters in the movie, then classifying it according to Yule's theory (1996). The categories consist of existential, factual, non-factual, lexical, structural, and counter-factual presupposition. The researcher then describes the application of the result to teaching reading. The results show that there are 103 of presupposition used by the main characters in Kenneth Branagh's movie Cinderella. Existential presupposition is the most dominant type of presupposition, with 58 (56%) utterances. For the others, there are 3 (3%) utterances belong to factive presupposition, 5 (5%) utterances belong to non-factive presupposition, 5 (5%) utterances belong to lexical presupposition, 27 (26%) utterances belong to structural presupposition, and 5 (5%) utterances belong to counter-factual presupposition. Additionally, the results of this study can be applied in teaching reading narrative text in the tenth-grade students of senior high school.
- ItemPassive Voice Found in English Version of Surah Al-Baqarah and Its Implication in Teaching Writing(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-05-03) Rona Nada NadhifahThis research aims to identify the types of passive voice found in English Version of The Holy Quran Surah Al-Baqarah and to describe the application of passive voice found in The Holy Qur’an Surah Al-Baqarah in teaching writing. This study uses qualitative method. The researcher uses some steps to collect the data. Those are finding the English version of the Holy Qur’an Surah Al-Baqarah translated by Abdullah Yusuf Ali, reading the English Version of the Holy Qur’an Surah Al-Baqarah translated by Abdullah Yusuf Ali, and finding the clauses that contain passive voice; while in analyzing the data, the researcher uses some steps: identifying the data: selected clauses that contain passive voice, classifying the data based on the types of passive voice, counting the data based on the types of passive voice, discussing the data found, describing the application in teaching writing, and drawing conclusion and suggestion. There are 47 clauses containing passive voice found in Surah Al Baqarah translated by Abdullah Yusuf Ali. There are 36 of passive with be (76.60%), 5 of bare passive (10.64%), and 6 adjectival passive (12.77 %). The results of this research can be used as a learning source to apply in teaching writing. Teacher can use the examples of passive voice found in English Version of Surah Al-Baqarah to develop students writing skill in senior high school.
- ItemThe Analysis of Grammatical Errors Found in Students’ Analytical Exposition Texts at the Second Grade of SMA Negeri 10 Purworejo in the Academic Year of 2023/2024.(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-07-12) Rohmatul JanahThe aim of this research is to find out types of grammatical errors in analytical exposition texts made by students of SMA Negeri 10 Purworejo in the academic year of 2023/2024. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative. In collecting the data, the researcher has done some steps as follows: 1) making the instrument, 2) consulting the instrument, 3) setting place and time for giving the instrument, 4) giving the instrument to the students, 5) getting students’ texts. In analyzing the data, the researcher has done some steps as follows: 1) identifying students’ texts, 2) finding the types of students’ errors, 3) counting the types of students’ errors, 4) discussing the types of students’ errors, 5) drawing conclusion and suggestion. The result shows that are 34 grammatical errors made by students. It can be described that misinformation error is the most frequent or highest error students make. There are 16 of misinformation errors (47%), 14 of omission errors (41.1%), 3 of addition errors (8.8%), and 1 misordering errors (3%).
- ItemThe Analysis of Adjective Found in LANY’s Album A Beautiful Blur and its Application in Teaching Grammar.(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-07-12) Oldyanisa Arum Cahya EryantoThis research has two aims. The first aim is to find out the types of adjectives in the LANY’s album A Beautiful Blur. The second aim is to describe the application of teaching grammar using the adjective found in LANY’s album A Beautiful Blur in teaching grammar. This research is a descriptive-qualitative. In this research, the data source is taken from the lyrics of songs on the LANY’s album A Beautiful Blur. In collecting data, the researcher takes some steps: listening songs, reading the lyrics, marking adjective, and coding the adjective. In coding adjectives, the researcher identifies, categorize, and label certain elements in song lyrics. In analyzing the data, the researcher has some following steps: categorizing the adjectives, counting the categorization of adjectives, discussing the adjectives, applying the result of the analysis to teaching grammar, drawing conclusion and suggestion. The result of the research shows that the total of adjectives is 173. Based on types of adjectives, there are 50 descriptive adjectives (28.90%), 1 proper adjective (0.58%), 30 quantitative adjectives (17.34%), 13 numeral adjectives (7.51%), 6 demonstrative adjectives (3.47%), 66 possessive adjectives (38.15%), 6 distributive adjectives (3.47%) and 1 relative adjective (0.58%). The adjective found in LANY’s album A Beautiful Blur can be applied in the second grade of senior high school. The researcher suggests that the results of this research can be utilized by teachers, students, and next researchers to enhance the process of learning and teaching English, especially adjectives.
- ItemExploring Students Perceptions Of Using Artificial Intelligence ChatGPT For English Language Learning: A Case Study At SMA Negeri 5 Purworejo In Academic Year 2023/2024(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-07-30) Fadhilatul AmanahThe study aims to investigate students' perspectives on ChatGPT in English language learning. The research was carried out in SMA N 5 Purworejo. This study wants to know about the students’ perception of using ChatGPT for English language learning at SMAN 5 Purworejo. Researcher used qualitative research methods. The study involved 105 students at the eleventh grade of SMA N 5 Purworejo, who then filled out their perceptions through a questionnaire using Google Forms. The results of this study shows that 85.55% of students have a positive perception of the use of ChatGPT, and 9.70% of them have a negative perception on the use of ChatGPT in their English learning process. The findings prove that ChatGPT is useful for various tasks, such as writing essays, translating, and summarizing. It has to be noted that students also have concerns about accuracy, plagiarism prevention, and critical thinking skills.
- ItemThe Implementation of Project Based Learning in Speaking Class of Class X of SMA Negeri 10 Purworejo in the Academic Year of 2023/2024(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-07-30) Halimmatus SadiahThis study aims to find out how the implementation of project-based learning in speaking class and the challenges in implementing project-based learning in teaching speaking at SMA Negeri 10 Purworejo in the 2023/2024 academic year. This research used descriptive qualitative method with a case study design to explore the implementation and challenges faced in the implementation of PBL in speaking classes. The respondents of this study were the X grade students of SMA Negeri 10 Purworejo in the academic year 2023/2024, totaling 250 students to fill out questionnaires and 20 students to be interviewed. The results of this study showed that teachers implemented Project Based Learning by starting with the essential question, designing a plan for the project, creating the timeline, monitoring the student and the progress of the project, assessing the outcome, and evaluating the experience. Second, teachers found obstacles in the implementation: lack of time to teach the project, students had difficulty collaborating with group members, students had difficulty in English and still thought about the final grade. Students had difficulty staying focused during presentations, students felt uncomfortable when speaking in front of the class and lacked confidence and difficulty overcoming nervousness when speaking in English with a score of 58.90%. Students also have difficulty practicing and improving pronunciation in English and are constrained by vocabulary or sentence structure when speaking in English with a score of 64.70%. Overall, PBL was well implemented despite some challenges.
- ItemThe Analysis of Code switching and Code mixing of Puella Podcast in Season 4 by Cinta Laura.S1.Thesis(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-07-30) Ayu AnggraheniThis research is a descriptive study about Code-switching and Code mixing in the Puella Podcast. This research aims to analyze the form, function, and reason of Code-switching and Code mixing which is performed by Cinta Laura dan Maudy Ayunda in Cinta Laura’s Podcast called “Puella Podcast”. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The object of this study is one video from Puella’s podcast, particularly in Season 4 entitled “Kuliah Ke Luar Negeri Itu Perlu Gak Sih?”. The researcher collected the data by listening to and watching the podcast, transcribing the conversation, and then categorizing the types of code switching and code mixing based on form, function, and reason. Finally, the data was organized into a data sheet. The results of this study are as follows: there are three types of Code Switching and six types of Code Mixing based on their frequencies of forms. Additionally, there are six types of functions for both code switching and code mixing. While the last frequencies are the reason, code-switching exhibits eight types, while code mixing shows six types. The study identified one hundred and twenty-six instances of code-switching and one hundred and fifty-eight instances of code mixing in the utterances.
- ItemThe Analysis of Students’ Perceptions in English Learning Outcomes at the Seventh Grade of SMP N 22 Purworejo in the Academic Year 2023/2024(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-07-31) Jeny IndriatiThe objectives of this study are (1) to describe students' perceptions of English learning outcomes at the seventh grade of SMP N 22 Purworejo, (2) to identify students' difficulties regarding English learning outcomes at the seventh grade of SMP N 22 Purworejo. This research is included in qualitative research. This research uses descriptive method. The data sources of this research are the result of interviews and questionnaires conducted by seventh grade students of SMP N 22 Purworejo in the 2023/2024 academic year totaling 64 students (32 students of class VII E and 32 students of class VII F). The results showed that the seventh grade students of SMP N 22 Purworejo felt happy when learning the English material provided by the teacher because when getting the material students feel challenged to learn it and students motivated when taking English lessons, with above average English learning outcomes. However, students also experience difficulties when learning English, namely difficulties in pronunciation and also a lack of understanding of vocabulary. The lack of relevance of learning to everyday life, for example, students lack interest in learning English themselves at home.

There were 30 students of eleventh grade at SMA Muhammadiyah Kutoarjo participated in this research. This research used qualitative descriptive. The researcher collected the data through a questionnaire and interviews. The result of this research stated that eleventh grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kutoarjo have positive perception in using TikTok to improve vocabulary mastery. Besides, there were some benefits and challenges faced by students. The benefits were such as engagement and interactivenes, personalizatity and differentiate, creativity and innovation, and accessibility. Then the challenges of using TikTok media in learning vocabulary such as signal, quota, and the few of content creators about vocabulary.
- ItemThe Effectiveness Of Using Spongebob Cartoon Film To Enrich Students Vocabulary At The Fourth Grade Students Of Muhammadiyah Elementary School Of Kemiri In The Academic Year Of 2022/2023(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-08) Rosdiana SetianiThe aim of the research was to find out the effectiveness of media Spongebob Cartoon Film to enrich students vocabulary mastery to the fourth grade students of Muhammadiyah Elementary School of Kemiri in the academic year of 2023/2024. This research belonged to an experimental research with an one group pretest-posttest. This research was carried out on 4th October 2023. The researcher took one group of the students as the sample using purposive sampling consists of 21 students. The data were collected by using test. The data were analyzed by SPSS. The result show that the cartoon film are attractive and effective media to teach vocabulary. The showed that after the treatment. There was a difference in the students’ achievement in vocabulary mastery. The result of the research led to the conclusion. From the vocabulary test, the students’ pretest meanscore, which was 72.67, increased to 78.33 in the posttest. Therefore, it can be concluded that by using spongebob cartoon films as teaching media, students’ vocabulary can be improved.
- ItemImplementing Multimodal Approach to Enhance Students’ Listening Comprehension at the Eleventh Grade of SMA N 4 Purworejo in the Academic Year of 2023/2024.(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-08) Muhammad FajarThe objectives of this study are (1) to explain the implementation of teaching students’ listening comprehension using multimodal approach, (2) to know English teacher and students' perception on the use of multimodal approach in enhancing their listening comprehension. This research belongs to qualitative research. The data source for this research is the result of observation, interviews, filling out questionnaires and analysed using descriptive qualitative method. Observation, interviews, and questionnaires were used to gather data on the implementation of the multimodal approach to enhance students’ listening comprehension in the eleventh grade at SMA N 4 Purworejo. The observation focused on how the approach was implemented in the classroom, while the interviews provided insights from both teachers and students. The questionnaire assessed the learning process, facilities, learning outcomes, and learning media. The research collected both qualitative and quantitative data, with the subjects being the English teacher and 35 students from class XI-6. The result of this research shows that teaching listening comprehension to eleventh-grade students at SMA N 4 Purworejo using a multimodal approach involves three stages: pre-teaching, during-teaching, and post-teaching. The multimodal approach is prominently utilized during teaching, with teachers employing PowerPoint presentations, audio materials, and instructional videos to present narrative texts. The implementation of the multimodal approach in listening comprehension at SMA N 4 Purworejo received positive feedback from both teachers and students. The learning process, learning outcomes, and learning media aspects were all rated as being in the "very good" category. This approach is viewed as an effective facilitator, making the English learning process easier to understand, more enjoyable, and highly efficient
- ItemAn Analysis of Deictic in The Main Character's Hatred Depicted in Movie Script Maleficent: The Mistress of Evil and Its Implementation in Teaching Vocabulary(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-08) Laela SavarrohmahDeictic expressions, like "here," "there," "this," and "that," depend on the context and speaker's location for their meaning. These words require the listener to understand the speaker's perspective to comprehend their full meaning. The objectives of this study are to explain the types of deictic expressions found in the dialogue of the main character in the movie *Maleficent: The Mistress of Evil* and to describe how these deictic expressions can be implemented in teaching vocabulary. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The technique for collecting data involves analyzing deixis expressions from the dialogues of the main character in Maleficent: The Mistress of Evil. This process includes watching the movie to understand and identify key details, reading and observing the dialogue from the movie script, and finding sentences that contain different types of deixis. The result of the study indicates that there are five types of deixis are identified in movie Maleficent: Mistress of Evil including: person deixis (67%, 29 instances), time deixis (7%, 3 instances), place deixis (14%, 6 instances), social deixis (9%, 4 instances), and discourse deixis (2%, 1 instance), with a total of 40 deixis. Person deixis is the most prevalent, reflecting the main character's frequent use of personal pronouns to describe participants. Additionally, the study explores the application of deixis in English vocabulary teaching, suggesting that despite the lack of specific deixis instruction in the curriculum, the use of personal pronouns in the movie can help students identify and write down these forms through subtitles. This approach can enhance vocabulary teaching by encouraging students to record and explore unusual words they encounter.
- ItemThe Analysis of Formal and Casual Language Style in RM’s Speech at the United Nations General Assembly and its Application in Teaching Speaking(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-08-19) Evi NovitasariThis research aims to find out the types of formal and casual language styles in the video RM’s Speech at the United Nations General Assembly and to describe the application of the analysis on the formal and casual language style in RM’s Speech at the United Nations General Assembly in teaching speaking at the eleventh-grade student of senior high school. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research. The object is the video entitled RM’s Speech at the United Nations General Assembly. The data from this research are scenes and speeches that have formal and casual language style in the video. To collect the data, the researcher did some steps. Those searching RM’s speech on YouTube UNICEF, downloading RM’s speech on YouTube UNICEF, watching RM Videos, and finding a speech transcript from the UNICEF website. In analyzing the data, the researcher takes several steps: finding the formal and casual language style in RM’s speech, grouping the data into types based on formal and casual language style based on Martin Joos, and applying the findings in teaching speaking. The result of this research shows that there are 63 data contained language styles that are classified into 3 kinds of language style: 15 language styles formal (24%), 16 language styles neutral (25%), and 32 language styles casual (51%). The findings of this research can be applied in teaching speaking especially Greetings and Introducing Yourself. The researcher suggests teachers and students to use speech videos as learning media.
- ItemThe Effectiveness of Using Jigsaw Puzzle in Teaching Vocabulary at the Seventh Grade students’ of Smp Negeri 6 Purworejo in the Academic Year of 2023/2024(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-08-19) Muhammad Rijal RitongaThe study aims to know whether using a jigsaw puzzle is effective or not for teaching vocabulary. This study employs quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design. The population of this research is the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Purworejo in the academic year of 2023/2024 which consist of 63 students. The sample of this research is VII A and VII B that consist of 32 students each. The data were taken on June 11 until June 13, 2023. The data were collected by using pre-test and post-test. The result of this research showed that after the treatment, there was a different result between students taught using the Jigsaw Puzzle and those taught without using the Jigsaw Puzzle. The researcher found that students in the experimental class were better than those in control class. The mean of the experimental class post-test was 81.87. Meanwhile, the mean of the control class post-test was 75.10. The final result of the t-test analysis showed that Sig. (2-tailed) value is lower than the value of significant level (0.009<0.05). Therefore, the result indicates that Jigsaw Puzzle is effective to teach vocabulary mastery to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Purworejo in the academic year of 2023/2024.
- ItemAnalysis of English Coursebook for senior high school Entitled Baha sa Inggris Based on Roman Jakobson’s Social Function Theory(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-08-22) Dewi SuproboThis study aims to determine whether the English coursebook entitled "Bahasa Inggris" is in accordance with Roman Jakobson's theory of social function and to determine what social functions are contained in the English coursebook entitled "Bahasa Inggris". The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative because the process of data collection is done by classifying sentences in the English coursebook entitled “Bahasa Inggris” for the tenth grade for senior high school published by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia into Roman Jakobson's social function theory. The researcher is as the key instrument. In collecting data, the researcher master the entire contents of the coursebook and identify the sentences into six group into Roman Jakobson's social function theory. While in analyzing data, the researcher code the data, counts the data, and draws conclusions and suggestions. The results of this research shows that there are 1262 sentences. Based on the result of the analysis, there are 747 of referential (59.19%), 428 of conative (33.91%), 47 of emotive (3.72%), 19 of poetic (1.51%), 14 of phatic (1.11%), 7 of metalinguistic (0.55%). Further, referential function is the most dominant found.

The research formulates the objective of the study involves to find out the types of adverbial phrases found in the Spider-Man: No Way Home and describes the application of adverbial phrases analysis found in the movie in teaching grammar effectively. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The researcher collects the data by watching Spider-Man: No Way Home movie to understand the whole stories, reading the script of Spider-Man: No Way Home movie, and collecting the utterances that contain adverbial phrase. The result of this research shows that there are 8 types of adverbial phrase found in the Spider-Man: No Way Home movie. There are 80 adverbial phrases found in the Spider-Man: No Way Home movie. There are 22 or 28,21% adverbial phrase of manner, 15 or 19,23% adverbial phrase of place, 1 or 1,28% adverbial phrase of frequency, 33 or 42,31% adverbial phrase of purpose, 3 or 3,85% adverbial phrase of direction, 2 or 2,56% adverbial phrase of definite time, 1 or 1,28% adverbial phrase of indefinite time, and 1 or 1,28% negative adverbial phrase. This research can be applied in teaching grammar in first grade of senior high school in adverbial phrase of time. Teacher can use Spider-Man: No Way Home movie to show the example of adverbial phrase of time to make lesson interesting and enjoyable.
- ItemThe Implementation of TPACK Done by English Teachers and Their Perception in Teaching Procedure Text(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-08-22) MulyatiTPACK integrates technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge, enabling teachers to create effective and innovative learning experiences. This research aimed to (1) describe the implementation of TPACK by English teachers in teaching procedure text and (2) to discover English teachers' perceptions of TPACK implementation in teaching procedure text. This research is classified as descriptive qualitative. The data for this study was classified as descriptive qualitative through observation and questionnaires. Observation was conducted to find out the application of TPACK in procedure text learning activities. Meanwhile, the researcher used a questionnaire to understand how teachers perceive TPACK's application in teaching procedure texts. The researcher analyzed the data using the Miles and Huberman model and the mean of the central tendency measures. The subjects of this study were three teachers participating in the PPG program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo. Results showed varying levels of TPACK integration among teachers. While Pedagogical Knowledge was consistently strong, other components like Technological Knowledge and TPACK itself were less frequently applied. Teachers' opinions of their TPACK implementation got a total mean score of 4 which was categorized as "good." It can be concluded that teachers generally rated their TPACK knowledge positively, with strengths in technology and pedagogy. However, they identified a need to improve their integration of content knowledge with teaching methods (Pedagogical Content Knowledge).
- ItemThe Implementation of TPACK Done by English Teachers in Teaching Descriptive Text and Their Perception(English Education Program Teacher Training And Education Faculty Purworejo Muhammadiyah University, 2024-08-22) Riana WidiyasariTPACK is a learning model framework that is considered effective for improving education quality and achieving learning objectives. Using TPACK in learning is crucial, as it not only enhances student comprehension but also boosts student enthusiasm for learning and improves student learning outcomes. This study aims to describe the implementation of TPACK by English teachers in teaching descriptive text and to explore teachers’ perceptions of this implementation. The study employed qualitative research methods. The subjects of the study were two English teachers: one junior high school teacher and one vocational high school teacher in the PPG program at Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo. The data collection techniques used in this study were video observations and questionnaires. The teaching video analysis and the questionnaire based on the teachers' perceptions yielded positive and similar results. According to the result of the teaching videos analysis, the researcher found that the teachers can effectively use technological devices, websites, and applications in their teaching. Furthermore, the researcher discovered that teachers are able to combine technology, pedagogy, and content in classroom learning. Based on the analysis of questionnaires from teachers' perceptions, the researcher found that teachers have mastered and understood how to operate technological devices in learning. The researcher also found that teachers are able to choose and determine technology that is in accordance with the learning methods and materials taught. These results indicate that teachers possess excellent abilities and skills in implementing TPACK into the teaching of descriptive text.

English is used in many fields for various purpose such as in educational field, science, technology, entertainment, and also in literary work. In language learning, there are four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In writing language, the used of suitable diction or structure is important. The study aims to analyze of sentence types found in Stephen Crane’s found in A Dark Brown Dog and to implement the sentence types found the Stephen Crane’s short story A Dark Brown Dog in teaching writing. The data were clauses written in Stephen Crane’s short story A Dark Brown Dog. The result of this found the analysis stated that there were four sentence types found in Stephen Crane’s short story A Dark Brown Dog. Of the 144 data found, there are 68 simple sentences (47,22%), 11 compound sentences (7,64%), 51 complex sentences (35,41%), and 14 compound-complex sentences (9,72%). The sentence types found can be implemented in teaching writing.

The app supports multimodal learning with features like audio support and word translations. This research evaluated the effectiveness of teaching reading comprehension between the class using the Readable application platform and the class not using the Readable application platform and students’ perceptions about the Readable application in the context of reading comprehension. Conducted among eleventh-grade students in SMA Negeri 1 Purworejo in the academic year 2024/2025 with total of 72 students. The sample of the experimental class of this research was class XI-I consisting of 36 students and the sample of the control class of this research was class XI-K consisting of 36 students. The research used a quasi-experimental design to compare reading comprehension outcomes between an experimental class using the app and a control class without it. Research results indicated a significant improvement in the experimental class's reading comprehension, with pre-test and post-test mean scores of 51.64 and 71.22, respectively. The two-tailed significance value was 0.00, which is below the 5% (0.05) significance threshold, leading to the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). These findings highlight the potential of the Readable application as an effective tool for enhancing students’ reading comprehension skills and the most of the students’ perception provide positive feedback to make learning English enjoyable and accessible.
