English Education Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Purworejo Muhammadiyah University. 2019 The objectives of this study are: (1) to describe the present textbooks used by English teachers at Accountancy Program at SMK 2 Purworejo. (2) to describe the quality of the present English Textbook used in English teaching at SMK N 2 Purworejo. (3) to explain to what extend do the teachers and the students need ESP-content based English materials in their English Textbooks. (4) to describe ESP-content based textbook of English for Accountancy Program of SMK N 2 Purworejo. This research analyzes the accountancy students’ need in learning material at eleventh grade student SMK Negeri 2 Purworejo due to the accountancy students learn English using English textbook which has same content with other majors. The subject of this research was the eleventh grade of accountancy students in XI AKL 3 and AKL 4. This research used descriptive qualitative research with questionnaire as the instrument in collecting data. To analyze the data, the researcher involved three activities: giving questionnaire to accountancy students, analyzing and describing the obtained data, and calculating percentage of students’ answer in questionnaire. The result of this research shows that the eleventh grade of accountancy student needs more specific English material and English skill in accountancy field. Therefore, to maximize their competence in accountancy, the accountancy students hope that the school can afford and provide textbook based on ESP. The Influence of Using Fly Swatter Game In Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at The Seventh Grade of SMP Negeri 4 Purworejo in Academic Year of 2018/2019. S1 Thesis. English Education Program. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. Purworejo Muhammadiyah University. The objectives of the research is to find out whether or not there is positive and significant influence using fly swatter game in students’ vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 4 Purworejo in academic year of 2018/2019. The sample of this research consists of 32 students in which the researcher applying purposive sampling. The population of this research is the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Purworejo in the academic year of 2018/2019. The total of the seventh grade students is 256 students. The instrument to take the data is multiple choice tests. There are pre-test and post test. Mean and standard deviation are used in the descriptive analysis, while test of normality and hypothesis is used in the inferential analysis. The result of the data computation indicates that the mean score of post test is higher than the mean score of pre-test (84.63 > 65.13). The result of hypothesis test shows that the value of correlation is 0.581 which higher than R square is 0.003 or 0.03%. It means that fly swatter game value influenced the students’ vocabulary mastery as big as 0.03% and the residue is 99.7% influenced by other factors. The significant value of regression based on SPSS 20 is 0.004 which is lower than 0.05. It means that there is no positive and significant influence between two variables. Thesis. English Education Program. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Purworejo Muhammadiyah University. 2019 The aims of the research are to describe listening skill of students’ social science class, to describe listening skill of students’ social studies class and to find out whether or not there is a positive and significant difference of the listening skill between social science and social studies class at the eleventh grade of SMA N 2 Purworejo in the academic year of 2018 / 2019. This research belongs to quantitative research with a causal comparative hypothesis as its research design. The population of the research is the eleventh grade students of SMA N 2 Purworejo in the academic year of 2018/2019 and the number of population is 289 students. In this research, the researcher takes 50% of the population or 138 students to be a respondents. To get the data, she uses multiple choice test as her instruments consist of 50 questions. The techniques of analyzing the data is descriptive and inferential analysis to answer the statements of the problem and the hypothesis. The result of this research shows that the students listening test result of social science class is in sufficient category based on the mean score 56,48 and the students listening test result of social studies class is in fairly sufficient category based on the mean score 47,70. The result of hypothesis testing show that Z value is higher than Z table (4,417>1,96). Furthemore, based on the SPSS computation, the value Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) is lower than 0,05 (0,00<0,05). It means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Furthemore, the researcher can make conclusion that there is a positive and significant difference of the listening skill between social science and social studies class at the eleventh grade of SMA N 2 Purworejo in the academic year of 2018/2019. The objective of the study is to describe the effectiveness of using reading partner in teaching reading descriptive text at the eighth grade students of SMP N1 Poncowarno, Kebumenin the Academic year of 2018/2019. The design of the study used experimental research. The population were the eighth grade students. In this research used purposive sampling. The researcher took 64 students of VIII C and VIII D as sample; they are experimental and control group. The researcher used pretest and post-test, the researcher taught reading comprehension descriptive text by using reading partner asa treatment to the experimental group. Statistically, the researcher analyzed the data by using t-test computation and SPSS. The result of the study shows that the students’ progress in reading comprehension is good. It can be seen from the mean score of experimental and control group. The mean score of experimental group is 72.66. Meanwhile, the mean of control group is 68.59. It shows that the t-value is higher than t-table (2.059>2.000). Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Therefore, the use of Reading Partner in Teaching Reading Descriptive Text at The Eighth Grade Students of SMP N 1 Poncowarno, Kebumen in the Academic year of 2018/2019 is effective. English Education Program Teacher Training and Education Faculty Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo.2019 The purpose of this research are to find out the forms of compound words found in Finding Dory movie script and to describe the application of teaching vocabulary about compound words for tenth grade students of Vocational High School. This study is about analyzing the compound words in Finding Dory movie script. In that movie script, there are many compound words. Compound words is a two words or more which produce a new meaning. In doing this research, the researcher uses qualitative descriptive method. Moreover, the researcher herself is being the instrument of this research. In collecting the data, the researcher watching, downloading the script, and identifying the compound words that found in the Finding Dory movie script. The researcher found three types of compound words in Finding Dory movie script namely noun compound, verb compound and adjective compound. The result shows that noun compound 31 and adjective compound 1. Therefore, the noun compound is the highest number. The application types of compound words that used in Finding Dory movie script is can be used in vocabulary teaching for tenth grade students of Vocational High School. S1 Thesis. English Language Education. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Purworejo Muhammadiyah University. 2019 This research is concerned with deixis found in novel Dasamuka. The aims of this research are to identify the types of deixis and interpersonal meaning found in novel Dasamuka and to describe the application of the type of deixis found in novel Dasamuka in teaching writing at tenth grade of Senior High School. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The data source of this thesis is the novel Dasamuka. The instrument of the research was the researcher. In collecting the data, the researcher took some steps: reading the novel, finding the deixis, and writing down the data. In analyzing the data, the researcher took some steps: identifying the types of deixis, finding the types of deixis, counting the data, explaining the interpersonal meaning, applying the deixis in teaching writing, and drawing conclusion and suggestion. The result of this research shows that there are 10429 deixis found in novel Dasamuka. There are 6294 person deixis (60.32%), 628 time deixis (6.02%), 1388 spatial deixis (13.31%), 881 discourse deixis (8.45%), 1238 social deixis (11.87%) and three components of interpersonal meaning used in the analysis. There are the speaker/writer persona (positive attitude or negative attitude), social status (high status or low status), and social distance (intimate or distant). Based on the result, the types of deixis found in the novel Dasamuka can be used in teaching writing at the tenth grade senior high school and teachers can use this research as a reference to teach writing skill. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Purworejo Muhammadiyah University. 2019. The aims of this research are (1) to find out the types of illocutionary acts found in Nike commercial advertisement. (2) to describe the application of illocutionary acts found in Nike commercial advertisement in teaching speaking at the tenth grade of senior high school. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research. The data are form Illocutionary acts found in Nike commercial advertisement. It was collected by searching the advertisement, downloading, identifying, transcribing, and finding the illocutionary acts in the advertisement. After the data collected, the researcher analyzed the data based on its types. The result shows that there are 5 types of illocutionary act found in Nike commercial advertisement. Those are 26 of assertive (12%), 92 of directive (42%), 15 of commissive (7%), 79 of expressive (37%), and 4 of declarative (2%). The most dominant illocutionary acts found is directives. The application of analyzing illocutionary acts in Nike commercial advertisement can be applied at the tenth grade of senior high school in the advertisement material. Purworejo Muhammadiyah University. 2019 The aims of the research are to know the students’ grammar mastery in degree of comparison and to find out whether or not there is significant difference of the students’ grammar mastery in degree of comparison between Accounting class and Hotel Accommodation class at the tenth grade of SMK N 2 Purworejo in the academic year of 2018/2019. This research belongs to quantitative research with a causal-comparative research as a research design. The population of this research is the tenth grade student of SMK N 2 Purworejo in the academic year of 2018/2019. By employing purposive sampling technique, the researcher takes 144 students coming from 4 classes as her sample. The researcher takes the data by conducting the test as an instrument of the research. The test consists of 20 multiple choices and 5 essays. The technique of analyzing the data is descriptive analysis and inferential analysis to answer the statements of the problem and the hypothesis. The result of this research shows that the grammar test result of degree of comparison in students’ accounting class is in “good” category based on the mean score 74.56 and the grammar test result of degree of comparison in students’ hotel accommodation class is in “sufficient” category based on the mean score 64.11. The result of hypothesis testing shows that 𝑍𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑒 is higher than 𝑍𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 (6.459>1.96). Furthermore, based on SPSS computation, the value Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) is lower than 0.05 (0.00<0.05) which means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Furthermore, the researcher can make conclusion that there is significant difference of the students’ grammar mastery in degree of comparison between accounting class and hotel accommodation class at the tenth grade of SMK N 2 Purworejo in the academic year of 2018/2019. S1 Thesis. English Education Program. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Purworejo Muhammadiyah University.2019 Coordinating conjunctions are used to join two or more words, phrases, or independent clauses. The two elements being joined must be grammatically equal or similar to both importance and structure. This research aims atidentifying the types of coordinating conjunction that found in the entertainment column articles of The Jakarta Post and to describe the application of coordinating conjunction in teaching grammar for students of senior high school. This research belonged to qualitative research. The data were taken from selected utterances which contained coordinating conjunction from entertainment column on The Jakarta Post articles. The instrument of this research was the researcher itself. In analyzing the data, the researcher observed the data, identified and categorized the data that contained coordinating conjunction, rechecked the data to make sure the data were organized properly, analyzed and interpreted the data, and drew conclusions and suggestion. In this study, the researcher found 192 items of coordinating conjunction used in entertainment column on The Jakarta Post online newspaper. The researcher analyzed 18 articles in January 2019 edition. Those are 4 (2.08%) coordinating conjunction “For”, 167 (86.97%) coordinating conjunction “And”, 1 (0.52%) coordinating conjunction “Nor”, 12 (6.25%) coordinating conjunction “But”, 8 (3.64%) coordinating conjunction “Or”, 0 (0%) coordinating conjunction “Yet”, and 1 (0.52%) coordinating conjunction “So”. The kind of coordinating conjunction which is dominantly used is “And”. This research can applied in teaching grammar especially in news item material for twelvth grade students at senior high school. The Analysis of Politeness Strategy In Requests Used by the Characters In The Film Entitled Sydney White and Its Application In Teaching Speaking at Junior High School. A Thesis. English Language Education, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Purworejo Muhammadiyah University. This researcher analyses the politeness strategy in requests used by the characters in the film Sydney White. The objectives of this research are to analyse the types of request expressions as politeness strategies found in Sydney White film and to describe the application of request expressions as politeness strategies used by the characters in teaching speaking. This research is descriptive qualitative method. In collecting data, the researcher did some step; they were downloading Sydney White film and script, checking both film and script in order to get the exact data. In analysing data, the researcher identified utterances which contain request expressions, classified the request expressions found in the film based on its types, discussed the request expressions as politeness strategies, applied the result of the analysis to teach speaking in junior high school, and drew conclusion and suggestion. The result of this analysis shows there are five request expressions found in the film Sydney White. Those are request for action 7 data (43.75%), request for permission5 data (31.25%), offer 2 data (12.5%), and invitation and proposal 1 data (6.25%). There are three politeness strategies used by the characters to express their requests, those are bald on record 4 data, positive politeness 9 data and negativie politeness 3 data from 16 expressions. The aims of this study are (1) to find out the types and the meaning of figurative language found in Ed Sheeran’s song lyrics in the album entitled Divide (2) to describe the application of figurative language in Ed Sheeran’s song lyrics in the album entitled Divide in teaching vocabulary. In this research, the data are taken from song lyrics in album Divide by Ed Sheeran. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative research because the researcher describes the figurative language found in the song lyrics and explains the meaning of each figurative language used in song lyrics in the album entitled Divide by Ed Sheeran. The researcher used documentation method to collect the data. The result of this study shows that there are 11 types of figurative language in album Divide by Ed Sheeran. Those are 13 of simile (23.2%), 10 of metaphor (17.9%), 4 of personification (7.1%), 7 of overstatement (12.5%), 4 of metonymy (7.1%), 5 of irony (8.9%), 1 of synecdoche (1.8%), 2 of paradox (3.6%), 3 of understatement (5.4%), 2 of imagery (3.6%), and 5 of symbol (8.9%). The most dominant of figurative language found in Ed Sheeran’s album Divide is simile. It is appropriate for the song lyrics in Ed Sheeran’s album Divide to be applied in teaching vocabulary for students at eleventh grade of Senior High School. This research deals with compound adjective found in the articles of The Jakarta Post and its application in teaching writing. The objectives of the study are to find the kinds of compound adjective found in the articles of The Jakarta Post and to describe the application of teaching writing using compound adjectives found in the articles of The Jakarta Post. The data source of this research is articles in The Jakarta Post published on May 22nd, 2019 – June 22nd, 2019. In collecting the data, the researcher chose the articles from The Jakarta Post, read in the articles, selected some articles, and found out compound adjective from the articles. In analyzing data, the researcher identified sentences which contain compound adjective, found out the kinds of compound adjective, counted the frequency and percentage of the compound adjective, applied compound adjective analysis in the articles to teach writing in senior high school, and drew conclusion and suggestion The result of the analysis shows that there are ten kinds of compound adjective found in the articles of The Jakarta Post There are 9 of Adj+N (14.10%), 21 of N+Adj (32.80%), 6 of N+N (9.40%), 6 of Adj+Adj (9.40%), 6 of P+Adj (9.40%), 5 of Adj+V (7.80%), 6 of P+N (9.40%), 2 of Adv+Adj (3.10%), 2 of V+Adj (3.10%), and 1 of V+P (1.50%) This research can be applied in teaching writing at the eleventh grade of senior high school. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University. 2019. This research belongs to qualitative research. This research deals with auxiliary modal “can” and “could” found in Mark Twain’s short story Eve’s Diary. The objective of this research is to find out the function of auxiliary modal “can” and “could” in Mark Twain short story Eve’s Diary to teach grammar at the eleventh grade of Senior High School. The data source of this research is Mark Twain’s short storyEve’ Diary. In collecting the data, the researcher read the whole short story and found the auxiliary modal “can” and “could”. In analyzing the data, the researcher gave codes the data according to the function of auxiliary modal “can” and “could”, classified the data, counted the percentage of the data, applied the findings to teach grammar at the eleventh grade of Senior High School, and draw suggestion and conclusion. The result of this research shows that there are three functions of auxiliary “can” and five functions of auxiliary “could” found in Mark Twain’s short story Eve’s Diary. There are 38 of “can”found. There are 29 of ability (73.6%), 1 of permission (2.6%), and 8 of neutral possiblity (21.2%). There are 45 of “could” found. There are 27 of ability (60%), 1 of permission (2.2%), 1 of neutral possibility (2.2%), 5 of epistemic possiblity (11.1%), and 11 of the past usage (24.5%). This research can be applied in teaching grammar especially for eleventh grade students of Senior High School. Key Words : auxiliary modal, short story, teaching grammar.

The Analysis of Students’ Difficulties in Using Passive Voice at the Twelfth Grade of SMA N 1 Mirit Kebumen in the Academic Year of 2018/2019. S1 Thesis English Language Education. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo. 2019. The research belongs to descriptive qualitative research. The subject is the twelfth grade students of SMA N 1 Mirit, Kebumen in the academic year of 2018/2019 that consists of 24 students. The aims of the research are to find out the students’ difficulties in using passive voice and to identify the causal factors affecting in using passive voice. In collecting the data, the researcher uses test and questionnaire. The procedures of collecting the data are preparing the research instrument, giving test to the students, looking at the result to make questionnaire, and giving questionnaire to the students. Based on the data of the test, the result shows that the mean of the students’ score is 54. It means that the students’ difficulties in using passive voice belongs to sufficient category. From the data, it can be stated that there are 6 students (25%) categorized good, 13 students (54.172%) categorized sufficient, 4 students (16.67%) categorized poor, and 1 student (4.17%) categorized very poor. Moreover, the result of the questionnaire shows that the students’ difficulties in using passive voice is affected by internal and external factors. From the internal factors, the dominant are 1) students’ competence in auxiliaries (60.42%), 2) students’ competence in singular and plural nouns (62.50%), and 3) students’ competence in past participle of regular and irregular verbs (62.51%); while from external factors, the dominant are 1) discussion with friends (60.42%), 2) learning facilities in the classroom (63.55%), and 3) students’ assignment (69.28%). This research deals with adverb phrases found in Entertainment news posted in bbc.com and its application in teaching writing. The objectives of the study are to find the functions of adverb phrases found in Entertainment news posted in bbc.com and to describe the application of teaching writing by adverb phrases found in Entertainment news posted in bbc.com. The data source of this research is Entertainment news posted in bbc.com. In collecting the data, the researcher opened website bbc.com, downloaded the script of entertainment news, comprehended the news, and found sentences containing adverb phrases. In analyzing data, the researcher identified sentences containing adverb phrase, categorized the adverb phrase found in the news based on its functions, counted the percentage of the adverb phrase, applied the result of the analysis to teach writing in senior high school, and drew conclusion and suggestion The result of the analysis shows that there are three functions of adverb phrase found in Entertainment news posted in bbc.com. There are 243 adverb phrases in sentence structure (60.75%), 120 adverb phrases modifying another adverbs (30%), and 37 adverb phrases modifying adjectives (9.25%). This study aims to find out what vowels are more dominantly used by students between AE and BE and also to find out how consistent they use it in conversation. The research object of this study is the fourth semester of Muhammadiyah Purworejo University in the Academic Year2018/2019. The instrument used is the pronunciation test, there are 50 words spoken by 31 students; recorders, which are used to record the pronunciation of students; and interviews. In analyzing the data, the researcher used four steps: looking for phonetic trancription from the word used in the test, listening to the recording and grouping it into two between AE and BE, using qualitative descriptive analysis to calculate the percentage and interpret the results of data analysis and the questionaire description. The results of the analysis and questioners description show that students are more dominant using AE than BE in their pronunciation. The total percentage of the use of AE and BE vowel was 68.19% for AE and 31.81% for BE. But even though they are more dominant using AE than BE in their pronunciation, they are still inconsistent in choosing vowels between AE and BE when conducting a conversation. This research deals with imperative sentences found in movie Inside Out and its application in teaching speaking. The aims of the study are to find the kinds of imperative sentences found in movie Inside Out and to describe the application of teaching speaking by imperative sentences found in movie Inside Out. The data source of this research is movie Inside Out. In collecting the data, the researcher watched the movie, downloaded the movie script, comprehended the script, and found imperative sentences on the movie. In analyzing data, the researcher identified the data, categorized the imperative sentence found in the movie based on its kind, counted the frequency and the percentage of the imperative sentences found, applied the finding of the analysis in teaching speaking, and drew conclusion and suggestion. The result of the analysis shows that there are four kinds of imperative sentences found in movie Inside Out. There are 99 of ISC (88.39 %), 11 of ISP (9.82%), then 2 of ISR (1.79%). Compliment is a speech act that frequently occurs in everyday conversation. The objectives of this research are to analyze the topic compliments expression, responses to compliment, and to describe the application of complimenting expression used by the characters in teaching speaking. This research is a qualitative research. This research uses a pragmatic approach. The researcher takes data from film and it is in form of script of film. To collect the data, the researcher did some steps: the first downloading The Moana film and script, the second checking both film, and the third script in order to have exact data. Then, to analyze the data, the researcher uses theory from Ishihara and Cohen about topic of compliment and Tran about response of compliment. From the research result, the researcher finds three topics of compliments expressed by the characters in the film Moana. They are an expression of appearance/possession 6 data (21%), performance/skills/abilities 20 data (69%), and personality traits 3 data (10%). There are three responses of compliments used by the characters in the film Moana, those are acceptance 20 data (69%), rejections 6 data (21%), and avoid self-praise 3 data (10%). The result of analysis of compliments that used in Moana film can be applied in teaching speaking of Vocational High School. This research deals with personal deixis in the Song Lyrics of Harris J’S Salam Album and its application in teaching writing. The objectives of the study are to find the functions of personal deixis, reference meanings of personal deixis and to describe the application of teaching writing by personal deixis. The data source of this research is Harris J’S Salam album. In collecting the data, the researcher listened, read and comprehended all of the Harris J’S Salam, chose data dealt with the personal deixis, selected data that are relevant, categorized and conducted the description to words lyric songs, and coded the data. In analyzing data, the researcher identified sentences which contain personal deixis, classified the types, identified every utterance contains reference meanings, applied the result of analysis, and drew conclusion and suggestion. The result of the analysis shows that there are three functions of personal deixis found in the Song Lyrics Harris J’S Salam. The number of first personal deixis I found is 139 (33.90%), me is 28 (6.82%), my is 53 (12.92%), mine is 0 (0%), we is 5 (1.21%), us is 3 (0.73%), our is 1 (0.24%), ours is 0 (0%), second personal deixis you is 109 (26.78%), your is 18 (4.39%), yours is 0 (0%) and third personal deixis he is 0 (0%), him is 0 (0%), his is 0 (0%), she is 6 (1.46%), her is 3 (0.73%), hers is 0 (0%), it is 42 (10.24%), its is 1 (0.24%), they is 0 (0%), them is 1 (0.24%), their is 1 (0.24%), theirs is 0 (0%). This research is concerned with inflectional morphemes found in education articles of Jakarta Post. The aim of this research is to find out the types of inflectional morphemes found in education articles of the Jakarta Post. This research is also to describe the application in teaching writing at tenth grade of Senior High School. This research is descriptive research because the data of this research is collected by classifying inflectional morphemes found in education articles and the researcher as the key instrument. The researcher found the education articles the Jakarta Post, selected the education articles, read the education articles, identified the inflectional morphemes, and gave code of each data. In analyzing the data, the researcher classified the types of inflectional morphemes, described how to apply the inflectional morphemes in teaching writing, and makes a conclusion of the finding and discussion. The result of this research showed that there are 1152 inflectional morphemes found in education articles of The Jakarta Post published on March 2019. Based on the types of inflectional morphemes, there are eight types. They are 56 3 rd person present tense singular (4.861 %), 61 possessive (5.295 %), 640 plural (55.556 %), 21 progressive aspect (1.823 %), 150 past tense (13.021 %), 157 perfective aspect (13.628 %), 50 comparative form of adjective (4.340 %), and 17 superlative form of adjective (1.476 %). The type of inflectional morphemes that is most used in newspaper is plural because the language feature of news item is noun. This research can be applied in teaching writing at Senior High School by using past tense and perfect tense in recount text. The students can learn inflectional morphemes to develop their English mastery especially in writing competence.
